Rating: rated 1.5 of 5 stars

Summary

Durable enough — but utterly dumb design. You have to hold upright, look down, and generally appear like the Spartans sipping a frappe on the "Meet the Spartans" spoof of "300."

Pros

  • durable
  • good loop for carrying

Cons

  • a lot of bulk and weight for just 0.75L
  • HORRIBLE straw design
  • cumbersome bite-valve access

I just don't get this product. If you're going with a water-bottle design, why put in a bite-valve/straw that makes you have to literally look DOWN to use it?

On trails in White Mountains I had it as my "convenience water" and my hiking partner forever saw folks coming up the trail before me on water stops because I was LOOKING DOWN to drink out of the thing. And, at that, I was only drinking after finagling the somewhat overly-firmly-retracted bite-valve open in the first place.

This product is an utter waste of the resources used to make it.  It has the 1.5 star only because it takes a beating ... well, except the straw comes off after the first cold night (30°F).

I love Camelbak ... but this is like that bad movie they should have never made (oh, and by the way, "Meet the Spartans" is WAY BETTER than "300").

I actually love this procuct but not for hiking - i use it in the car but leave the bite valve on the up position. It's nice you don't have to tip it up to drink while dirving.
