For entry-level backpackers, and for those who like to get by without paying much for equipment, I really recommend this pack. It isn't too fancy, and if you're out for several days, it isn't the most comfortable either. But, they sell today for around $50 I think, and they are just real solid. The design has changed little over the years, and so it's tried and true. I've owned mine for almost 10 years, and have carried it several hundred miles. It has gone down into the Grand Canyon and I've carried it through passes in the Rockies over 13,000 feet. I found that it does help a lot to add a sternum strap.
