Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice jacket. It's just not warm enough for cold weather--no zip in lining. It is simply a shell coat. Your child would need to wear an extra layer or 2 to make it warm. I would have liked one coat to do the job, with a zip out lining.
Plus I think I paid too much. Some other coats with a zip in lining are being offered for a few dollars more. Wish I picked one of those. Size wise, my son is 6 1/2, and average size. The size 8 fits him perfectly.
