Craghoppers NosiLife Prospect Long-Sleeved Shirt

photo: Craghoppers NosiLife Prospect Long-Sleeved Shirt hiking shirt

Permanent Insect Shield sets this shirt apart from the crowd. Anti-bacterial, moisture control, and solar shield make for a very versatile shirt.

Pros

  • NosiLife insect shield
  • Solarshield
  • Wash and wear
  • Anti-bacterial

This Craghoppers Prospect long sleeve shirt with NosiLife insect control has provided me with a lot insect-free days on the trail and during travels. It's made from 100% Polyamide (nylon) with the synthetic pyrethroid treated yarn.

For those that like a scientific explanation "Synthetic pyrethroids are synthesized derivatives of naturally occurring pyrethrins, which are taken from pyrethrum, the oleoresin extract of dried chrysanthemum flowers. The insecticidal properties of pyrethrins are derived from keto alcoholic esters of chrysanthemic and pyrethroid acids."

Wow, that's a mouthful, all I know is the treatment works really well. While Craghoppers states that NosiLife will protect the user from 90% of mosquitoes and other flying biting insects I personally would put my test even higher.

In what has been a banner year for mosquitoes in the Sierra after our massive snow year I was not bitten even once while trekking around in this shirt. I have had the shirt on backpack trips, day hikes, and just out on the town with not a bite. In addition, the shirt features Solarshield with its UPF50+ sun protection rating. Anti-bacterial properties of the fabric have helped keep the stink down on and off the trail.

A medium shirt fits my 5'9" 160lb frame well with a nice long tail to tuck in. Craghoppers even thought to include a button above the elbow so you can pull up the sleeves and secure them if the temperature goes too high. Having a collar on a hiking shirt comes in mighty handy when the sun is baking the back of your neck.

I really appreciate that the shirt is wash and wear. Having a dual purpose shirt that is nice enough to wear to dinner one day and on the trail, the next really helps when you want to pack light while traveling.
