Rating: rated 0.5 of 5 stars
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: over $250 AND STILL PAYING SUBSCRIPTION!

Summary

InReach? or NOT! I invested in the theory that it should have been the answer to my quest. However major disappointment is the reality.
In all fairness if tech support had UNSUBSCRIBED ME, I would likely still be anticipating next generation device? Theory and execution are two worlds apart. Tech Support Corporate Zombies SUCK @SS! Am still getting billed after returning the unit to REI, and numerous phone calls to corp zombies!

Pros

  • Theoretically it should give support and comfort.
  • Canned messages are great when and IF they are recieved.

Cons

  • It gives false security and anguish when it DOES NOT WORK!
  • Service does not connect reliably even in the desert.
  • IT DOES NOT SHARE the GPS INFORMATION WITH YOU!
  • YEARLY CONTRACT for services not rendered billed monthly
  • Corp tech zombies are absolutely rude! and useless.

INREACH? or not even close.

The  theory is sound and exciting, I spent hours researching the web looking for this device.

finally found the"blue one" at my local R.E.I., excited I ran to get it in my grubby little hands.  got it home and ripped the package apart like a kid on Christmas morning! thoroughly read the instructions front to back and back to front...{no mention of  problems with specific phones!} .... {or the yearly subscription contract!}.

got online to subscribe {hidden link not found anywhere but in the owners setup manual!} and found out the possible problems that this device will have with my EVO4g?ROM UPDATES...no big deal...

ok im still excited {after paying a small fortune for this device}and on to subscribe i go ...

three separate plans are available...

basic has very limited texting {10 messages a month?} and no cookie crumbs? $15 month for a year?

sport had like 30 messages a month and cookie crumbs for $35 a month for a year....

well ok sign me up. {not so excited to sign a yearly contract... was really hoping for a monthly option.}

guide was so expensive that it was not even an option with unlimited texts?

only to be so disappointed. after setting up the subscription i was having problems connecting to my phone , the Bluetooth was synced but it would not connect. on to blogs and Tech support...ROM UPDATES..... no big deal....{but it still is not reliable at home little lone out in the wild where it MUST BE RELIABLE!} this is where excitement became disapointment turned really sour to ANGER...

{ i really got angry...AFTER ABOUT THE 4TH CALL TO TECH SUPPORT}

in truth i am angrier with the attitudes that i got from everyone @ delorme, more than the disappointment.

am still getting billed for services not rendered, 8 months later...AFTER RETURNING THE DEVICE!

I am still looking for a communication device along this design, sat phone is next?
