photo: EKA Swede 8 folding knife

The Eka 8 is a Swedish folding knife with Sandvik 12c27 blade.

Pros

  • Small but robust
  • Good steel for 25 bucks.
  • Good blade for hunters and campers
  • Swedish knife with Swedish steel = a more than 1,000 years old tradition = can't really go wrong...

Cons

  • Two-hand opening, not really a problem for this type of knife.

8 stands for 8 cm (3.15") Just enough for everyday use. The geometry of the blade is good for the hunter and the camper. Not the best wood carving knife, but that's kind of obvious with this blade. Light to carry.

Ease of Use: Smooth opening, great lock, sharp and easy to sharpen steel.

FeaturesHole for cord. A short leather cord with a knot is great for getting it out of the pocket and gives some extra control when hands are bloody or wet.

Construction and Durability: The blade is firmly set both closed and opened. I've chopped some firewood with it, but generally treating it with common sense (and love of course...).

But chopping by hammering on the blade is not an alternative. It folds if you go too hard, but it doesn't break. On the other hand, get a bigger knife or preferably an axe for that kind of work.

To keep it sharpAs usual, use the back of your leather belt.

ConditionGot it in 2014. I polished the blade to mirror shine (bacteria and dirt don't get the grip as easy.) Naturally I oiled the wood. Linseed and 1/4 therpentine. 0000 steelwool to rub it in 6-7 times and I no longer worry about washing the knife.
