Ozark Trail 500-Lumen 12V Spotlight

rated 5 of 5 stars This product is great for illuminating targets at .25 miles, has minimal weight, and is water resistant. Great for paddling and boating. I recently purchased an Ozark Trail 500L LED handheld spotlight/Q beam for a 100-mile paddle across the Wilderness Waterway at Everglades National Park. I was extremely impressed with the overall performance of this product. I utilized this spotlight to illuminate the waterway markers, which assist paddlers in navigating through the Wilderness Waterway, while transitioning… Full review

Garmin Tempe

rated 4 of 5 stars I've been using the Tempe for walks with my dog. It takes about 8-10 minutes to go from 68 degrees to 30 degrees. I don't like the mounting options that Garmin recommends—clothing and shoes. Walking around town on roads I feel it is secure, but if you're going running, hiking, hunting, it is not secure in my opinion. I bought mine for winter hiking in the mountains. I will be putting the Tempe in the brain of my backpack, mounted to the key holder strap. Update 1/19/2017: Hiked Owl's Head with… Full review

Petzl Tikka R+

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Expensive but powerful and versatile compact headlamp — a huge leap forward from classic 3xAAA lamps. Not as powerful as various Chinese lights. This lamp was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2016. Its direct replacement is Petzl Reactik, which is slightly more powerful, but lacks the power level customization feature. I’d not recommend it. Consider Reactik Plus which may be customized via phone app.  I’ve been an owner of Tikka R+ headlamp for more than a year. Recently I’ve purchased… Full review

Princeton Tec Fred

rated 3 of 5 stars A decent, lightweight headlamp with red mode. The Princeton Tec Fred is a basic headlamp. It's relatively inexpensive and offers two white light settings and two red light settings. It's waterproof, light, and easy to use.  On the pro side, the waterproofing of the headlamp is effective. I have put it to the test on many different trips, but I have yet to have it fully submerged. I've also used it in subzero temperatures (Celsius) and it putters on. However, I do not think the range is as good… Full review

Pieps DSP Sport

rated 2 of 5 stars This beacon worked amazing for my first few tests and practices. Intuitive arrows, large screen, the beacon itself feels manufactured of high grade plastic. In my fourth practice session the safety leash broke out of the housing. This is a serious safety concern. A lost beacon could result in a lost life. Full review

Princeton Tec Byte

rated 4 of 5 stars Ptec has a fix for the battery drain, that also acts as a lockout for the switch they will send you for free. Makes it a very good lamp. My go-to pocket lamp. Good red light. Acceptable main white beam for size. Convenient, small, nice to have the lockout feature. Full review

Casio Pathfinder PAG80-1V

rated 5 of 5 stars Received a PAG 80 as a gift that I've wanted in 2008, it was about $100 at the time. It is a great watch to have with you. But, you must make adjustments to the ALTIMETER and Barometer to get correct Compass direction. The only issue I have after so many years is the band. The little eye broke and the band gets in the way... Full review

Black Diamond Iota

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Perfect for trail running. You'll still need a longer-range one for route finding. As fall approaches and nights get longer many say goodbye to trail running and relegate their morning runs to either asphalt (yawn) or a treadmill (sacrilege). 1st world problems at their best. Many runners either quit running in the mornings during the winter or stick to lighted streets.  The struggle is real. You can use a headlamp but: Most headlamps eat WAY too many batteries for daily use. Full power headlamps… Full review

Princeton Tec Vizz

rated 1.5 of 5 stars Could be really nice lamp if not for defective circuit... :( My son bought this for me a couple months ago and lamp worked perfect for the first couple times I used it. Now when I want to use it I have to open up the battery compartment and squeeze unit together to get light to come on—very frustrating!! There must be a short somewhere in the circuit or something??? I am gonna try and return it for another one before I buy from competitor. Full review
