Princeton Tec Vizz

rated 4 of 5 stars I have to say overall not a bad light for its price point. It does the job well, not great, but well. I have not used this light for extended periods of time yet. What I can say is that it is a pretty decent light at its price point. I'm definitely a light freak. I have many flashlights. It's kind of a hobby. I can say if you spend a few more dollars there are better options out there. The main plus is this is available at local stores and doesn't have to be bought online. I have really only used… Full review

Black Diamond Sprinter

rated 5 of 5 stars Throws out lots of light. Comfortable and stable while running. I wanted a headlamp that would throw enough light and not bounce around while running. The Black Diamond Sprinter is great on both counts. It actually illuminates far more than I expected — I have no problem seeing any obstacles on the trails and roads that I normally run on. The headlamp is very comfortable and stable. I always recharge it fully after each run, but it's probably not the headlamp you want for a multi-day trip. I haven't… Full review

Petzl Zipka Plus

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Compact, light, and reliable. Have used this nimble, compact head-torch for years now. Not only is it a good and reliable piece of kit to have with you on a camping trip or expedition, but it is also ideal for everyday tasks such as walking the dog. I have grown to love this little torch over the years and it has proved itself to me on many a darkened occasion — I once dropped it in a river and when I managed to fish it out, it was still in perfect working order. It gives you plenty of notice… Full review

iTP A3 EOS Flashlight

rated 5 of 5 stars Ultralight, half ounce AAA flashlight with 96 Lumens. This is one of the world's smallest and brightest mini flashlights.  2.5 inches long 11 grams, (0.4 ounces) Uses 1 AAA battery High 96 Lumens (55 min), Med 22 Lumens (4 hrs), Low 1.8 Lumens (50 hrs) To lend you some perspective, a big D-cell Maglite only puts out 27 lumens, which is roughly the ITP's medium setting. The low setting (firefly) is perfect for times when you don't want to disturb anyone, such as packing up early at a shelter,… Full review

Black Diamond Gizmo

rated 4 of 5 stars Very lightweight and affordable. If you like the K.I.S.S. method (keep it simple stupid), this is a great pick for a headlamp. This time of year it seems essential to have a headlamp to run after work. It's dark at 4:30 and that's when I get out there. The other night I was on my jog and felt something bounce off my head, after looking around there was nothing to be seen. Then again it happened... Suddenly I notice it's pitch black and I'm not really sure where my feet are landing. Apparantly my… Full review

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS

rated 5 of 5 stars The best avalanche beacon I have used. This is the simplest, most functional avalanche beacon I have ever used. You can pull it out of the box with zero experience in using a beacon and feel like a pro within 5 minutes. On top of that, it's reasonably priced and easy to find. The harness is super easy to put on and is barely noticeable. The range is good. There's not much else to say — it's the ideal beacon. I love this thing. 100% recommended. [I am a PSIA certified Alpine and Telemark Instructor]… Full review

Fenix PD32 Flashlight

rated 5 of 5 stars Small, bright, and sturdy. This is what I found with the Fenix PD32 flashlight. The Fenix PD32 is a hand held flashlight that easily fits into the palm of my hand. Its overall length is 5". The light source is a Cree LED (XP-G2) which outputs a maximum of 340 lumens. The life span on the LED is 50,000 hours.   The function selector switch determines the mode — SOS, strobe, low, medium (bright), high (really bright), and turbo (really, really bright). After the initial playing around with it,… Full review

Gaia GPS App & Offline Topo Maps

rated 5 of 5 stars Gaia offers up-to-date and detailed GPS topo maps for Android or IOS devices. Best of all the maps are downloadable so your phone can be your GPS even when out of cellular range. I had a Garmin eTrex and then a Garmin 450 GPS that I have used the past 12 years. Both devices were well utilized and displayed good accuracy and much usefulness.  I recently bought the Canada Topo Pro maps for my Samsung Note 3 for $9.99. I liked and used that app for the past few months. Having a big 5.7" display to… Full review

ZebraLight H600 MK II

rated 5 of 5 stars The H600 MK II is a nearly indestructible headlamp, providing a blinding 1,090 Lumens of light. Combine that with its long battery life and feather weight, and you will be stunned to learn it retails for hundreds of dollars less than its less powerful competitors! Zebra Light is taking the caving community by storm, and it won't be long until that tempest pours into all outdoor sports. Consider these four factors: It puts out 2-4 times the light of a typical headlamp. It costs a fraction of less… Full review
