Garmin Oregon 600

rated 4 of 5 stars The Garmin Oregon 600 a versatile touchscreen GPS. With the addition of topographical maps, it's an invaluable aid when hiking and backpacking. The Garmin's Oregon 600 is a feature rich handheld GPS. The 600 is waterproof; features a 3.0 touchscreen, customizable screens and exterior buttons; includes a digital compass and barometric altimeter. It also tracks GPS and Glassass satellites. The 600 includes 1.5 gigs of internal memory which allows the internal basemap to store up to 4000 waypoints,… Full review

Black Diamond ReVolt

rated 5 of 5 stars A solid, well-built performer that eliminates adding batteries to your shopping list. I've had my ReVolt for about three years and after relatively heavy use it still operates perfectly in a wide range of conditions. Having had a fair number of headlamps the ReVolt is the one I'll go back to again. The ability to recharge with a USB cable before a trip via my computer, a wall socket (no included adapter), or in the car on the way to the trailhead is a feature I won't ever give up. I still carry… Full review

Satmap Active 12

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I easily configured this for left-handed use and have used it really effectively even with the standard 1:50 basic Landranger map that it comes with. I have also bought regional maps (10 to 45 gbp) at 1:25 and less for geo-caching, walking mountain trails and cycling the moors. For all uses this has replaced my Garmin and is easier to use since everything is button press function access, which might sound an odd positive but miss-touching a capacitive screen to lose the detail in a swipe (particularly… Full review

NiteRider Adventure 180

rated 4 of 5 stars To start out with I just want to say I really like this headlamp. It has some flaws, but then again most things do. As a general use headlamp for an outdoor enthusiast the Adventure 180 is great. You would like this headlamp if you want a multipurpose light for use around camp, map reading, cooking, gathering firewood, and to an extent night hiking or other activities where long range visibility is wanted. What makes this headlamp really stand out is its broad range of light output. You can use… Full review

HALO Pocket Power StarLight 3000

rated 1 of 5 stars Product defective. Replacement defective. Further contact ignored by company. Product arrived DOA so I emailed support and received a return authorization which I filled out and returned with the defective product at my expense. I received a replacement which was also DOA but with a different failure mode. Subsequent efforts to contact the company were ignored. So, I paid for the product and paid to return the defective product and was then ignored when I asked for another replacement. Full review

Black Diamond Spot

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Spot 2016 is an improvement. I am not a headlamp gear freak, but it was time for an upgrade. The 2016 version performed very well while cooking dinner in the dark and other activities such as cleanup, hanging food sacks in bear country, reading, and not blinding my partner in the tent on a recent 5-night trip. I used the headlamp every night. Spending time at home mastering and memorizing the features and their control is a no-brainer. Do it. The new maximum output of 200 lumens at 80 m is a nice,… Full review

Petzl Tikka

rated 5 of 5 stars Simple things just work. Simple things just work. Simple ... Lightweight ... Easy to find since it glows in the dark ... Long battery life ... Reliable. Full review

Coast P7

rated 5 of 5 stars Range is 750 ft at high beam output, 10-15 ft wide area focus for inside room. Three-way adjustable switch with maximum 360 lumens. Fully adjustable slide focus with just the movement of your thumb. Lockable focus position. Ideal for use with emergency situations, easily carried in pocket. Grips well when used for personal defense handgun spotting. Solid aluminum construction with lanyard loop slot. Lengthy battery life due to the low, medium, and high settings. Not waterproof, but is definitely… Full review

Princeton Tec Fred

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Lightweight, bright, affordable, efficient headlamp with both red and white wide and narrow beams. It is perfect for backpacking, running, or grilling. I previously owned a Petzl Tikka XP and was becoming increasingly displeased at its battery life as it aged.  I decided it was time for a new headlamp. After reading multiple reviews, I decided to purchase a Princeton Tec Fred. Because I wanted it mainly for backpacking, I chose the Fred because of its low weight (< 3 oz.), the fact that it offers… Full review
