Fenix PD32 Flashlight

rated 5 of 5 stars Small, bright, and sturdy. This is what I found with the Fenix PD32 flashlight. The Fenix PD32 is a hand held flashlight that easily fits into the palm of my hand. Its overall length is 5". The light source is a Cree LED (XP-G2) which outputs a maximum of 340 lumens. The life span on the LED is 50,000 hours.   The function selector switch determines the mode — SOS, strobe, low, medium (bright), high (really bright), and turbo (really, really bright). After the initial playing around with it,… Full review

Gaia GPS App & Offline Topo Maps

rated 5 of 5 stars Gaia offers up-to-date and detailed GPS topo maps for Android or IOS devices. Best of all the maps are downloadable so your phone can be your GPS even when out of cellular range. I had a Garmin eTrex and then a Garmin 450 GPS that I have used the past 12 years. Both devices were well utilized and displayed good accuracy and much usefulness.  I recently bought the Canada Topo Pro maps for my Samsung Note 3 for $9.99. I liked and used that app for the past few months. Having a big 5.7" display to… Full review

ZebraLight H600 MK II

rated 5 of 5 stars The H600 MK II is a nearly indestructible headlamp, providing a blinding 1,090 Lumens of light. Combine that with its long battery life and feather weight, and you will be stunned to learn it retails for hundreds of dollars less than its less powerful competitors! Zebra Light is taking the caving community by storm, and it won't be long until that tempest pours into all outdoor sports. Consider these four factors: It puts out 2-4 times the light of a typical headlamp. It costs a fraction of less… Full review

Petzl Zipka

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Zipka 2 is a great little, and I do mean little, headlamp that will serve hikers who are not prone to find themselves walking long after dusk. And for almost two years my little Zipka has traveled with me every time I've been out. The Zipka is well suited for around camp chores, late night latrine trips and reading a book in the hammock. When I replace this one it will be with the latest model, I simply love it. I've carried the Zipka every time out for a year and it's never let me down. It's… Full review

Cyclops Atom

rated 4 of 5 stars Headlamps can be used for hobbies, projects, and fun stuff to do. Outdoors and gear. It is a staple item of gear among outdoor enthusiasts. ALL LAMPS HAVE A DIFFERENT SPECTRA OF LIGHT!!! This is the Cyclops Atom-XP-LED HeadlampI purchased this new at the sporting goods store ... it's inexpensive but good! I am not biased about the headlamp. It is easy and quick! You cannot go wrong with this light. This Cyclops Atom XP Led Headlamp is designed for tactical or everyday needs. It is fairly sturdy… Full review

Black Diamond Orbit

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great little backpacking light. Small but powerful. My initial impressions upon taking the lantern out of the box was "IT'S SO TINY". I almost was disappointed by its size thinking it would be useless. BOY WAS I WRONG! Once I put the batteries in and tested it out I was surprised by the amount of light given off. This is a great little lantern. It is very compact, I love the way the globe collapses down onto the base which makes this even smaller for when it comes time to put it away.   I tested… Full review

Fenix LD02

rated 5 of 5 stars I got this light for a backup/quick access light on my backpack, and it works great. It runs on 1 AAA battery, has three brightness settlings. The lowest setting is about as bright as a cheap AAA flashlight, and the brightest setting is adequate for almost any task in the dark, up to about 10-15 feet away, but I believe that it goes back to the medium setting after a bit, to avoid burning up the bulb. Mammut Ambient Light Dry Bag

rated 5 of 5 stars Dry bag that transforms into lantern. This translucent dry bag is pretty simple, except for a small sleeve in its base. This sleeve allows you to place a headlamp in the base which lights up the translucent material turning it into a effective lantern.  You can clip it inside your tent, or hang it anywhere. It works really well and is much better then a headlamp for getting changed inside a tent, or anything of the like.  Full review

Petzl Tikka R+

rated 4 of 5 stars Great headlamp that excels in technical use. The reactive lighting is extremely helpful at conserving maximum battery for navigation even after 11 hours of use, and it also works great for down climbing through technical terrain. I have had this headlamp for six months and used it for climbing, running, and camping. The controls are confusing at first so make sure a staff member shows you how they work. It's the second of Peztl's Reactive series of lights. Reactive lighting uses a photo sensor that… Full review
