Black Diamond Orbit

rated 3.5 of 5 stars A durable, little lantern that can add sufficient light to a tent or campsite. Good for car campers, kids, and those of us hikers who don't mind a little extra weight in our packs if it means more/extra lighting in camp. Conditions:I’ve been using this for nearly one year in a variety of cool (40-60°F) and warm weather (60-80°F) overnight trips, both car-camping and backpacking. It’s been exposed to wet (both humidity and rain) conditions with no ill effect, but never immersed in water. I’ve… Full review

Casio 3202 Twin Sensor Watch

rated 3.5 of 5 stars I am totally satisfied using this watch. It is most advance technology available in very cheap price. All-in-one model, just like a watch but but many specifications included in this watch. Manufacturing quality was very rigid. Look so nice, silver plated straps dial is entirely different color combination. Full review

Petzl MYO 5

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Though heavy by today's standards, this headlamp lasts forever and never breaks. I have been using this lamp for 4 years now. I have a lighter lamp but I keep going back to the Myo. The 5 LED setting lasts an extremely long time. I change the batteries out maybe 3 times a year and use it for night hikes at least once a month and I use it at home all the time. The 4 AA batteries can power the small LEDs forever. The halogen setting draws a lot of energy and is only good for about 4 hours or so. I'm… Full review

FlameStower Heat Charger

rated 1 of 5 stars The Flamestower’s technology is tried and true at this point in time. However, the product itself could use some design changes. With the Flamestower you will be able to charge most small electronic devices with the majority of backpacking and camp stoves on the market, as well as with a small camp fire. Due to the nature of the Flamestower’s design, it may become damaged but still operable (for how long?) during normal use. As much as I wanted to like this product, I do not think I could recommend… Full review

Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Solar Kit

rated 3 of 5 stars It's great as a solar charger. It's aesthetically pleasing and comes in a pretty box. Best used when carrying it in a car, RV, cycling pack, or on very short hikes. I have a couple portable solar chargers including the Goal Zero 10 kit. Some photographers recommended it so I picked one up while it was on a closeout sale. Still, it's pricey compared to others with similar features. Solar panels wholesale are cheap, less than 50 cents a watt for the good ones. So for the price they're asking you'd… Full review

BioLite KettleCharge

rated 3.5 of 5 stars A kettle with a built-in thermoelectric generator that can charge USB-powered devices off-grid. Heat water, get a charge. A superb option for emergency use during power outages and something to consider for multi-day basecamp expeditions, but likely too much weight to justify its presence on most backpacking trips. BioLite KettleCharge The BioLite KettleCharge is a flat, stainless steel kettle with an opening for filling or pouring from the kettle, and a plastic handle that rises about the top of… Full review

Malkoff Devices Hound Dog

rated 5 of 5 stars Extremely bright light with two functions — 1,000+ lumens and 70+ lumens. Roughly two hours on high with two 18650 batteries. I have not tested the low output time, since we use this as a backyard "let the dogs out" light. However, this gear would be invaluable for a night search operation. Highly recommended for those looking for a professional grade, rough use, super bright light. Not recommended for close work or enclosed areas. I purchased this light several months ago to light up my entire… Full review

Cotton Carrier Strapshot

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great for quick access. I originally became aware of this while hiking in the Adirondack High Peaks and saw someone using it. He recommended this and now that I have one I do as well.  The main part attaches to your pack by tight and secure Velcro. Then on the bottom of your DSLR you screw in an adaptor that will slide into the clip attached to your pack. Included with the carrier is a hand strap for your camera. It makes it easier to grab your camera and slide it out from the strap holder. You… Full review

Mammut X-Shot Headlamp

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Hard use headlamp that stands the test of time in all manner of conditions. Good for canoeing in dark conditions, close up work, and hiking. Recommended for those who are serious about night movement. I purchased this over six years ago in Alaska for use while duck hunting. Since then, it's been used lots of times in all types of weather (wet, cold, wet and cold, hot, you name it!). It has decent battery life and throws a great spot -— so good in fact that you can use it for night / early morning… Full review
