The North Face Snow Leopard Pack

rated 5 of 5 stars I've had this pack since 1988. It has completed the AT, the Vermont Long Trail, the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier including a summit of Rainier, and it has seen every inch of around 400 miles of trail and summit in the Catskill Mountains of N.Y. To this day, it has never torn, zippers have not broken, stays have stayed true to my body. It is still (other than the clear faded colors) as good as new. Full review

ALPS Mountaineering Quadrant 4900

rated 5 of 5 stars A solid pack for the extended trip. Plenty of space with accessible pockets and an easy to get to rainfly make this a good pack. I have been using this pack for the better part of two years, and we go camping about once a month (weekends) and one week-long trip in the summer and one-week long trip in the winter. I have reduced my load considerably and the pack continues to deliver.   It is easy to wear, easily adjustable. I’m 6'4" and have found this to fit me nicely where other packs ride too… Full review

Kelty Redcloud 110

rated 4 of 5 stars Bought this pack for my 14 yo (6' 2") son for a one-week leadership wilderness training. He loves the weight distribution, spaciousness. Neither of us could figure out how to attach carry the detachable fanny pack, no instructions. So he brought an old one for day use as needed. Also few places to attach carabiner within handy reach for water, compass, etc.  Otherwise this is a great, well built, high quality piece of equipment. Full review

Osprey Xena 85

rated 5 of 5 stars Solid, heavy-duty, high-capacity pack, with thick, comfortable padding, great for any longer backpacking or mountaineering trips. This pack is a beast — it's built to last! Highly adjustable back fits your spine length perfectly. True to Osprey packs, this packs offers a solid and comfortable frame. I've found the padding on the hip and shoulder pads to be much thicker than my old Osprey Aura 65 (bought in 2007, retired in 2015). I tested the Xena 85 recently on a 4-day, 28mi. backpacking trip… Full review

Deuter Aircontact 75+10

rated 5 of 5 stars Workhorse for expedition backpacking. Most comfortable pack I ever put on. Most comfortable pack I ever put on. Used it for dozens of backpacking/hiking/camping trips. Once, in NM, I swapped packs with someone else and even with re-adjusting, his pack just felt wrong and heavy, even though mine actually weighed more.   For me, comfort is everything and this pack delivers. It's about 5 years old and may last longer than I do. Full review

REI New Star

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great pack. Rides well and very comfortable. Large size with plenty of compartments and straps to store and adjust load. Well made with beautiful colors—scarlet red and forest green. I'm 6'1" and this fit me great, was very comfortable, with a huge capacity. Compression straps allow for various size loads and kept the pack riding well. Padded shoulder straps and hip belt stayed in place and were comfortable. Three main compartments and a small one inside held items securely with easy access. The… Full review

Mountainsmith Frostfire III

rated 5 of 5 stars I've had two, first was stolen, bought replacement ~1995. Used it for years (5'10" ~180) bought a Frostfire II for my wife, she still uses it. Mine went to a friend who's 6'8" and was struggling to fit a pack. The tape measure torso length straps were brilliant, and gave this pack more work to do, and my friend USES this pack. Hopefully we'll be chasing mule muzzleloader deer in Colorado with it in 2016. I'll be carrying another Patrick Smith pack, a Kifaru Duplex. I've had two of these packs. The… Full review

Camp Trails Wilderness (Internal)

rated 5 of 5 stars I just retired this pack after many years of use. It was my second pack and I love it. The external pocked are a plus. I had this pack for a long time and it was a wonderful pack. Five external pockets make getting to your gear a lot faster. As my gear got smaller and lighter I needed a smaller pack. The mesh pockets in the center makes organizing easy. I'll miss this pack! I got it used so I really don't know the cubic inches. I took two week-long trips with it and still had room left. I was never… Full review

High Sierra Appalachian 75

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This backpack is wonderful for outdoor excursions and backpacking trips. It is a little on the heavy side, but it is perfect for moderately long backpacking trips. Holds all of the gear, food, clothing, and first aid I need for a comfortable and fun trip into the wilderness. I recommend this product highly for avid and casual backpackers alike, as it fits well and functions in a practical and efficient manner. This pack is absolutely amazing. I received it as a gift from a family member and it has… Full review
