They are well built with thick leather. The tongue lays right in around the leg. I have been wearing them in rain the whole break in period. They are not waterproof but do shed well when treated prior to use. The sole is advertised as having lateral gripping bars for walking on wet, slick trees. I was sceptacle. They work great. I puposely walked on completely bare, wet, slimy logs. I did not slip. I have yet to ford a creek yet with them but I'm intrested to see how they work on wet rocks.
Overal I am very satisfied with them so far.
