Compeed

rated 4 of 5 stars This blister treatment works like a dream to protect and heal any blister. They are not as effective when walking with wet feet or swimming while they are still on. In those circumstances it is best to add a waterproof covering over the Compeed. For long hikes, more than a day, I always carry a good supply. I have used these on many hikes where extended walking time has resulted in even well worn in boots rubbing a bit. They provide a good cover across the whole blister and have different sizes… Full review

Compeed

rated 5 of 5 stars A self-adhesive blister prevention/treatment that also works for calluses and corns. More expensive than Moleskin for blister prevention, but about as good as it gets for treatment of open blisters. I'd recommend having a few of these along when breaking in new boots or in the first aid kit on longer hikes and ski tours. Great stuff. For the first half of the backountry ski season this year I had something funny going on with my right little toe — it would start hurting like hell after a few hours… Full review

The Poison Ivy Soap Co Poison Ivy Soap

rated 5 of 5 stars Gets rid of active poison ivy breakouts and prevents them from starting. I purchased Poison Ivy Soap from the Poison Ivy Soap Company off Amazon a few weeks ago. This year has been hard for me. I got my first breakout in early March and have had poison ivy rashes all over my body ever since. After trying to ignore it, I tried OTC creams and astringents to no avail. After some research it came down to using a course of Prednisone that I keep for knee emergencies, or Zanfel, which is very expensive… Full review

Tyr Dry Off Sport Towel

rated 5 of 5 stars This towel was invented and marketed to competitive swimmers, but is perfect for those who like to be clean in the backcountry. It works well as a washcloth, but it works better than a cotton towel, though it must be wet for it to dry! This washcloth/towel from the swimwear company far surpasses any other similar towel product sold for backpacking. The little towel holds an incredible amount of water for washing and then can be wrung out to use for drying before handing to the next person to bathe. … Full review

Sawyer Extractor Pump Kit

rated 0.5 of 5 stars The Sawyer Extractor Suction Pump Kit is NOT an effective first aid device for treating the effects of snake envenomation. As a zoo professional-herpetology for 30 years I am familiar with first aid protocol and treatment for viperid and elapid envenomation in a captive setting. Until recently the Sawyer Extractor Suction Pump Kit was considered an effective first aid device for treating the victim of snake envenomation and was standard equipment in most zoo reptile houses/exhibits. No studies… Full review

Jason Aloe Vera 98% Moisturizing Gel

rated 5 of 5 stars Failure to apply enough waterproof sunscreen to my face on the snowy alpine slopes on Mt Rainier, caused my entire face skin surface to burn off! A horrible highly uncomfortable recovery process and my face appearance was saved by this little tube of Aloe Vera gel. I bow down in homage to the cactus spirits that save me! -- Review in Progress -- please check back shortly! -- On a hike on Mt Rainier, Wash., to Camp Muir at 10,000', it looked like my one HEAVY application of "WATERPROOF" 60+ sunscreen… Full review

Whiz Freedom Feminine Funnel

rated 5 of 5 stars Oh my gosh. Before the Whiz Freedom, that awkward squat when everyone can tell exactly what you're doing—PEEING! You don't want anyone to see you peeing! Now with the Whiz, I can pee like a man! Sure if someone saw a dude standing with his back to the road it would be assumed he was peeing. But a woman just appears to be standing behind a car! I have been camping with this three times, but I do recommend practicing in the shower about ten times before you try it outside.  First time I used it… Full review

REI Mini Multitowel

rated 5 of 5 stars The mini towel is perfect for backpacking. After a heavy rain it's great to wipe water off your tent. The towel holds a lot of water and rings out almost dry. It comes in a small lightweight pouch with a caribiner to attach to your pack. Can be use to clean or dry your body or cook gear. I won't go hiking without it. Just love it! I used this towel on a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I used it as a sweatband and a towel for bathing. It was a lifesaver when it came to absorbing and wiping water… Full review

BodyGlide Anti-Chafe

rated 5 of 5 stars How would you like to float down the trail, with little or no pain? BodyGlide product can help with the second part of that. It can be a real problem solver for the skin discomfort, the bane of many outdoor adventurers, blisters and chafing! Provided that the gear has the right physical design, non-aggressive surface texturing, and size for you, test this as your potential solution. Basically it makes your skin surface less wettable, thus less swellable. And it adds some tenacious slick, slipperiness… Full review
