Gerber FAST Draw

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is a good quality for the price knife that has the added benefit of an assist feature that really helps with one-handed opening of the knife. I have been carrying a Gerber Fast Draw knife daily for over the last ten years and have really grown to like it due to the assist feature and that it performs well given its low cost. For most of backpacking and hiking activities I generally don't carry this knife due to its weight, which is around 3.4 ounces, but for all my other waking hours I always… Full review

SOG Revolver - Seal

rated 4 of 5 stars Great hiking knife. I hiked three months on the Appalachian Trail and this is the knife I took. Used to get firewood, cook, clear trail, stayed sharp and saw cut great. Doesn't have a thick blade. It's not a heavy duty survival knife. If you use it like a knife should be used you should have no problems. Full review

Opinel No. 12 Explore

rated 4 of 5 stars A folding knife option for outdoors folks who want some of the efficiency of a larger, fixed blade knife in a folding package with hook blade, fire starter, and emergency whistle thrown in for good measure. FEATURES & OPERATION According to Opinel’s literature on its new offering, the No. 12 Explore is a knife intended for “outdoor enthusiasts” for use during activities such as “camping & hiking, hunting, fishing,” and “exploration.” Elsewhere Opinel labels it as being suitable… Full review

Ozark Trail Titanium-Coated Knife

rated 4 of 5 stars Of the several hundred knives I currently have (and have had in the past), I can count the number of "made in China" knives I've owned on one hand. I never buy cheap knives. But this $3 knife from Walmart looked nice so I bought one. After admiring it for a while, I purchased a second one to run through a torture test of cutting, stabbing, beating, batoning, burying in salty mud, placing in a vice and bending, and intentional destruction. Amazingly, it held up. Razor sharp from the package and tight… Full review

Spyderco Manix 2

rated 5 of 5 stars Great folding alternative for a camping / hiking knife. High quality steel, a handle that is comfortable in size, and easy to grip, dry or wet, but not too much grip. Sharpens easily, and holds an edge very well. if you have man hands standard or a bit bigger, you will find the grip on this knife just about perfect in most of the ways that you can hold the knife. The size in the pocket is just about right, between an Every Day Carry (EDC) size, and a size that is just able to baton (break into smaller… Full review

Opinel No. 8 Folding Knife

rated 5 of 5 stars It's also an historical knife and the type dates back to at least the Civil War. I've used mine for Civil War and 1916 Punitive Expedition living history. It's a good knife to have and I also carry one in my ground-pounder search and rescue pack. Full review

Opinel No. 8 Folding Knife

rated 5 of 5 stars All around a great knife, simple and nice to look at. The knife is easy to open—not as easy as some, it does require two hands. Its simple design is what makes this knife so appealing and nice to look at, it has a very pretty real wooden handle and is simple to unlock and lock with a collar that turns to lock the blade open or closed.  These famous peasant knives from France have a single high-carbon steel blade that folds into a hardwood handle (Beechwood I think). Being a high carbon blade… Full review

Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt Folder

rated 5 of 5 stars Simply put, beautiful. This knife is well elegant! They used the finest materials and the fit and finish are what you would expect in a custom. It's almost hard to use this knife because of its beauty. I had the pleasure of owning this knife for awhile before I hit financial problems and I will buy it again! If you're on the fence about this one, just buy it. It really is worth every penny and you can always put it up for sale on the secondary market and it will be snatched up. Just keep the box… Full review

Petzl Spatha

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great little knife, that will take a bite out of your salami, but not out of your pocketbook. A few years back, I was looking for a decent lightweight knife for my hiking ditty bag. But the top rated knives were really expensive, some in excess of a hundred bucks! Though I like quality, I'm also frugal (or cheap, depending on how you want to look at it). When this knife came out, it got great reviews, so I picked one up. When this knife was first released, it came in two models: a longer straight-edged… Full review
