These boots are basically the same boot as the Vasque Superhiker, they are both one-piece leather, relatively high, built for heavey loads and off trail hiking. But I think you'll pay $10 more for the Vasques and get 1/10 of the boot (maybe that's why Vasque has such a great return policy). My Garmont boots have stood up to a NOLS semester course in the desert (off trail under a heavey load), three summers leading climbing and hiking trips, a few years of walking around campus in them, way to much rain, and some serios trips through the High Sierra and the Winds. Though I've tried, I can't kill them, not even pavement seems to affect their aggressive soles. Aqua Seal twice a year has kept them in great shape, and me dry. No better shoe exists in their class.
