superb comfort out of the box. Hiked 10km with no breakin, and no ill effects. After 3 years of lots of hiking, and wearing regularly just around town, the soles are hardly worn, and there is absolutely nothing that has come loose or unstitched. However, despite religious Nikwaxing, they are not particularly waterproof. An hour of heavy rain on the trail will soak them through.
