Summary

Got the Gregory Sage 55 Pack thinking of 2-4 day hikes. I had so much room to spare! It fit my torso very well, looked cute, and had a lot of very useful pockets.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Weatherproof
  • Lots of storage space

Cons

  • Too heavy for a day pack

I have used this pack for a year's worth of hikes/camping/traveling adventures. It fits well, still looks new, and had maintained very well since I got it. I've even let my roommate borrow the pack to take to Europe! On Gregory's website it advertises the pack as a 2-day pack, but if you pack smart it will work for a week-long trip!

The pack comes in a few different sizes, and using the measurements listed on their site I was able to find a size that fit me very comfortably. The waist straps buckle above your hip bones, and I found it made climbing up steep trails so much easier. There were also two zippered pockets on the waist straps, which made carrying snacks, pepper spray, a knife, and chap stick so much more accessible while moving forward. There were waterproof pouches that I could stuff wet/dirty clothes into, side pouches that held water bottles, a headlamp, bug spray, or trash, and space for a water bladder.

The Gregory pack is semi-waterproof on its own, but also comes with a matching rain fly (how stylish!) Despite tossing it on the ground multiple times, the pack itself seems to dust right off and still look great. Some mesh pockets help with keeping it nice, too.

Compared to GoLite, the Gregory packs are quite heavy. My only concern with the pack was that on its own, it had some noticeable weight. But it really wasn't that bad. I borrowed a co-worker's GoLite bag to do the same weekend trip before I had bought my Gregory, and I really didn't notice that big of a difference between the two when filled with my gear.

I would definitely recommend this pack!
