"Grivel Super Asymmetrical Plate G10/G12/G14 Crampon Add-On (Spring 2008) The Super Asymmetrical Plate G10/G12/G14 by Grivel is ideal when some modern ice and alpine climbing boots feature a curved last that more or less matches the natural curve of the foot. Clamping a straight-framed crampon to a curved profile boot puts the front points in an odd position, off the end of the 2nd and 4th toes. The Asymmetrical center bars solve this problem. A more interesting use of the Asymmetrical bars is to put them on boots with a straight last, which will put the front points in a more medial location. This requires the climber to open his/her hips to address the ice, which allows him/her to raise the leg higher before the knee hits the ice. Try it. How's your turn-out?
