Save your money, treat yourself and never be wet in the cold again.

This eVent shell has all the bells and whistles: high mounted, pack-compatible hand pockets, a Napolean pocket, a detachable, 4-way adjustable hood, waist cinches on both sides, and pit zips (which you won't find on many eVent jackets). Seams are factory taped.

This shell performs like an absolute champion of full-on winter shells. Having spent several cold weekends in constant rain, I was never wet, and never sweated out my insulation layers - eVent breaths as well as most soft-shells. The hood, while generous in proportions to accommodate a helmet, is so adjustable that anyone should be able to get the near-perfect fit, either with or without headgear. The stiff brim holds its shape and sheds the rain beautifully. The stretch panels under the arms and at the body sides allow you a full range of motion comfortably.

One feature that is a little kitchy but good if you tend to fall a lot are the removable elbow and shoulder pads. These are very light, and not very noticeable, but of no use if you're not a wild-man (or woman) on the slopes.

Note: this is not a light-weight summer shell; but for a winter shell, it cannot be beat. And I've tried Gore-tex, Frogg Toggs, and various house brand jackets. This takes the cake, by a wide margin.
