User Review: Haglofs Swift II Jacket
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $250
A top performing, top-spec lightweight windproof/water resistant jacket. A well thought out and executed design with excellent fabrics and great adjustability.
- Very windproof
- Great adjustability
The Haglofs Swift II jacket (sadly discontinued) is a fantastic windproof, and water resistant jacket made with Gore-Tex windstopper and a DWR coating which works more than well enough to shrug off a light shower or any snow you may encounter. The fabric itself also appears to be fairly abrasion resistant as there are no signs of wear after multiple trips. The fabric combined with the liner make this jacket very breathable allowing you to dry off easily after exertion, all while remaining completely windproof.
The jacket is also very lightweight, especially considering that it is fully featured (liner, pockets, adjustable hood, cuffs, etc). The adjustability is very good with adjustable hem, cuffs, and a high degree of adjustability on the hood. The hood hugs your head very well and moves with you allowing for optimum visibility.
The fit for me (5' 10 1/2", 200 lbs) is very comfortable with a size large; there are no pressure points or areas of immobility, without it being too large and flapping in the wind. The cut makes it easy to layer over a heavy fleece or an insulating jacket like an OR Neoplume.
So far, my impressions are that this is a very well thought out and executed product. It appears durable and well constructed and I expect it to last a sufficiently long time.
I have used this jacket hiking mostly in Scotland. Most of the time I was wearing just this jacket over a merino/poly blend long-sleeve base-layer and was perfectly comfortable in strong winds and -10 C weather.
If you can find one, likely at a reduced price because it's discontinued, it is well worth it.
