I have hiked, climbed, and plan to tour in these, and normally I can't wear softshells for how badly I sweat in them. Fit Disclaimer: I'm 5'10" 155 lbs and very lean. Arc'teryx Sabre Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars The best ski and snowboard pants I have ever had. These are the best ski and snowboard pants I have ever had. The fabric has been really durable. There is just the right amount of insulation. I really like the huge pockets. The only issue I have with the pants is that they are a baggier cut. Some people would find them a little too large. Sierra Designs Elite Rain Chaps

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Simple, lightweight, packable, and good ventilation. I have yet to find any real negative to the Elite Rain Chaps (5 oz.). Cabela's Dry-Plus MXP Pants

rated 4 of 5 stars The Cabela's Dry-Plus MXP pants are lightweight, waterproof, and breathable, and work equally well as rain pants or an outer shell for snow sports. The two pockets are closed with waterproof zippers that really are waterproof. Full-length side zippers allow for easy donning over boots and ventilation. Black Diamond Dawn Patrol Hybrid Bib

rated 5 of 5 stars The only large style soft shell bibs, these are a great for all aerobic winter activities. The Dawn Patrol bibs are a really great option for a lot of activities. They fit pretty tight around the legs, similar to most soft shells like the Gamma MX or the Patagonia Knifeblades or Adze. It has minor adjustments on the hem, but not huge. Marmot Women's PreCip Full Zip Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars I own these and love them. They do the job well of keeping the rain out. I'm not over the top hard on any of my gear, but I've sat on everything from mud to rocks and not one problem with these pants. It's kind of odd how you cool down so quickly after you put these on. No sticking to you when you're sweaty. I do think they run small in size. I'm 5'2" and a size 8 and had to get a large. Which was shocking considering I can wear kids clothes. Columbia Rain Tech Omni Heat Pants

rated 4 of 5 stars Live in WA where we get a lot of bad weather. Bought to go with my jacket of the same brand and was extremely impressed with the performance. Priced great, very functional, no frills. Lets start with the only con I could come up with. I put this under the cons because for some people this is a must. Especially when climbing a mountain where crampons are needed, would require too much time and effort to put on and take off.
