Black Diamond Cosmo

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Bright enough for night hiking. Could use some padding against the forehead. REI recently put this on sale, and I snagged one because my old Black Diamond kept turning on by itself in my pack. This one does not have that problem because the on/off switch is recessed and protects from accidental activation.  I haven't measured, but I recently did some hiking on the AT in the darkness as I left camp at 5:30 am. I could see just fine with this headlamp.  I have used it liberally for 6 nights on the… Full review

Princeton Tec Byte

rated 1.5 of 5 stars NO Value if the batteries continue to die I found this collection of reviews while searching for battery usage problems I've experience with the Byte. I like its size and the fact it only uses 2 AAA batteries, but none of these advantages matter if the light is always dead when I go to use it. I often store the light in a drawer for weeks until needing it again. Every time I find the batteries have died. I've also tried removing the batteries when not in use, but this is a hassle, and then I'm… Full review

Princeton Tec Sync

rated 3 of 5 stars An average headlamp that runs well, is easy to operate, and features a good range of motion. A few flaws, but for the price, it's a serviceable option for campsite or tent usage. Conditions:I purchased this headlamp nearly one year ago, based on its low price and a friend’s recommendation. Nearly all of its use has been in cool to warm temperatures (40-85°F), with minimal exposure to freezing temperatures (which tends to exhaust batteries quicker) and it has handled moderately rainy conditions. Petzl NAO

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Bright, reactive lighting maximizes battery life and optimizes brightness for the task at hand. Been using the Nao for a couple years now for any fast paced nighttime activity including trail running, roller skiing, cross country skiing, and night mountain biking and a bit of mountaineering. I used it last January during a 24 hour run in Wisconsin and although 500+ lumens wasn't needed as the long distance necessitated a slower pace, it definitely helped psychologically since the sun is down for… Full review

UCO A-120

rated 4 of 5 stars Light and comfortable on the head with an easily adjustable output, the UCO A-120 works well for in-camp lighting or after dark activity both on- and off-trail. Good battery life even on the brightest setting makes this lamp especially good for those who night hike or do other activities that require long periods of use, even if it is just reading in your tent. Product Specifications From Vendor:    BATTERY TYPE (included): 3x 1.5v AAA in external pack    BULB TYPE: CREE XP-E LED    HIGHLY… Full review

UCO A-45 Comfort-Fit Headlamp

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Light and comfortable on the head with an easily adjustable output, the UCO A-45 works well for in-camp lighting, though few would find it bright enough for night hiking. Super easy to use, making it great for children or others that may have dexterity issues. Good battery life even on the brightest setting means you won't have to be changing them all the time when the kids forget to turn the lamp off. This review was done in conjunction with the UCO A-120 which is the A-45's higher powered companion… Full review

Princeton Tec Byte

rated 4 of 5 stars This is one awesome headlamp. Light and bright, well bright enough for me. Had mine for about three years, maybe more? Three settings of light and easy to adjust. This was a gift to me after a fall in the dark at Camp Daniel Boone in WNC. It got 70 lumens up to 30 meters. At 2.26 it is light and small. The hi and low settings are bright. The red light function is great for not waking the whole camp at night. Mine was a gift. But they run about 23 to 30 bucks. Full review

Black Diamond Camo Spot

rated 5 of 5 stars Well this is most perfect head lamp I have used so far. Small, easy to use, good for climbing, caves, trekking. Four-season use, any time of year. I recommend this headlamp for all uses. Range: More than 20m Beam & Brightness: The beam focused. You have button to select wide or pinpoint beam. Burn Time: Well when I put new battery in it lasts for more than 10 days of use every night. Power Source : You need 1 minute to replace battery. It use 3 x 1,5V AAA.  Ease of Use: Very easy to use and… Full review

LED Lenser H7.2

rated 5 of 5 stars These are great headlamps. The new LED Lenser H7.2 and the upscale H7R.2 bring even brighter adjustable top range illumination. The new LED Lenser H7.2 replaces the H7 with a 250 peak lumen rating (300 for the H7R.2). At maximum setting it is rated at 175 yards, which I have found to be accurate with fresh batteries. The newer model takes four AAA batteries, one more than the older H7. With any battery powered device you have to accept that most of the time it operates somewhere less than full power… Full review
