I bought a pair of Hermann Survivor boots in 1977, which lasted more than 12 years of rough physical abuse. I wore the heels off of them, before I had to burn them. Apparently, they were manufactured somewhere in the United States (...does anyone know for sure where they were manufactured, then?).

This past summer, I bought a new pair at Wal-Mart; they were junk! I wore them two and one-half hours out in the snow one week ago and the right inside sole completely busted out.

The Chinese are pulling the same maneuver on the American public with their shoddy workmanship that the Japanese did after World War 2 with their junk. After the Japanese discovered that the US consumer was a discriminating shopper and wouldn't continue to buy inferior merchandise, they finally instituted world class quality-control procedures in their production processes. Today, the quality of Japanese products are so good that a lot of their products, except automobiles, have disappeared from the US market, which I imagine has something to do with the deluge of Chinese imports we are now experiencing.

Do not want to get into the politics of how the US finances its debt, but the average US consumer should not have to get it in the yang in order to keep a decent pair of boots on his feet!!! All I want is the address of the importers of these junk boots, so I can return them to the sorry... (even though I know they will not make good on the junk.)
