Recent Hiking/Backpacking Sock Reviews

Farm to Feet Ballston Spa Crew

rated 4 of 5 stars Seriously comfortable socks on long hikes. I was a little concerned after their first washing as they looked to shrink to the point where I wasn't sure my wife would be able to get her feet into them, but they stretched out nicely without any pressure or pinching, so... Very comfortable and cool when hiking. I wear low top, partially mesh hiking shoes as opposed to solid leather boots any more and have ALWAYS worn Wigwam Heavy Hikers when backpacking regardless of the season. I've never had a blister. Darn Tough Merino Boot Sock Full Cushion

rated 4.5 of 5 stars These are warm and, just like they say, Darn Tough but comfortable! These were a birthday gift two years ago and I have worn them hunting, camping, and every day to work. They have been great and still have lots of life and no holes. Going to order a few more pairs! Full review

Darn Tough Unisex Merino Mountaineering Sock Extra Cushion

rated 5 of 5 stars If you don't bury me barefoot, use these socks. My feet sweat. No matter the weather or what I'm doing I seem to have a perpetual damp feeling to my feet. I've tried many socks, boots, trail runners but at the end of the day my socks are wet and feel slimy. Not with this sock. I can wear these for several days on the trail and while they still get damp they are perfectly fine the next morning. While my feet always smell as fresh as spring sunshine Darn Tough socks resist getting that gym locker… Full review

Smartwool Outdoor Sport Light Cushion

rated 5 of 5 stars These socks are very durable and comfortable. I own about 5 pairs of the exact sock and have had no problems with them. They dry very quickly and there is no smell when you wear them for days. I love these socks. Have never had any problems or of them. The only problem is they are not cheap. You will pay right at $15 a pair for them. But well worth the price. It's a lot cheaper than having to buy packs of socks because they wear out. You can wear these socks for days before there is any smell, and… Full review

Smartwool Outdoor Sport Light Cushion

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Lightweight, breathable with a cushioned sole and open mesh top, these socks work well on their own or as a liner sock. Roughly a crew height with a comfortable bit of compression support along with their ability to dry quickly make these especially useful in hot weather. The Smartwool Outdoor Sport is a very versatile sock that functions well on its own in lightweight sport shoe applications, but also does a great job as a liner sock when wearing heavier boots. Fit and Comfort: Made from an extremely… Full review

Injinji Outdoor Quarter Crew Sock

rated 4 of 5 stars Solves problems with toe blisters. I am very blister prone in between my third and fourth toes on both my feet, but especially my right foot. I always hike in shoes with a large toe box, but usually after about six hiking days I start to get blisters. I've tried taping, vaseline, and all the usual remedies—even tried to "train" my toes to separate with this strange device I wore around the house for a week or two. In preparation for a long hike last summer, I was just figuring I would deal with… Full review

Fox River Pioneer Crew Socks

rated 5 of 5 stars These socks dry quickly and offer great comfort at a reasonable price. You can purchase three pairs of these for the price of other brands. I love these socks. They fit well and wear like iron. They are easy to care for also. Just throw them in regular cold wash and you are all set. They hold up well in the dryer also. I brought a three pack of these socks and they cost about the same as other brands at one sock. I have had the socks, three pack, and have hiked a gazillion miles and they still look… Full review

Darn Tough Merino Micro Crew Sock Cushion

rated 5 of 5 stars These are the best hiking socks! After talking to some salespeople in the store I went ahead and bought two pairs last year and they are still the two pair I bring with me on my backpacking trips. I bought these expensive hiking socks after talking to a few people in the store about hiking socks. They said these were the best and they weren't kidding. They are very comfortable, not too thin and not too thick. They don't create friction in my hiking boots so no blisters. They dry out pretty quickly… Full review

Darn Tough Merino Micro Crew Sock Cushion

rated 5 of 5 stars The best day-hiking socks. Durable, good cushion, good wicking. Summary - These are a very durable sock that have lasted through many day hikes, around town and in winter. It's my "go-to" sock for any day hikes or walking around town when the temp is 25 - 75 degrees. Function - Merino wool is great, warm when it's a bit chilly, but not too hot when it is warm out. On long car camping trips, I have rinsed these socks out and used them a second day, no problem. The merino wool blend easily cleans up… Full review
