Ultimate Direction Fastpack 15

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great pack for long days in the mountains; even a bare bones overnighter. I've now had about dozen mountain runs in the 18-25 mile range with this pack and can state unequivocally, it's a keeper. This is really a nice sized pack for an all day adventure; with it's stretch pockets it's very close to 20 litersI typically have mine loaded with 6-8 lbs (about 1/2 that in water). Pack carries very nicely- no bounce or sway and it's very comfortable. The pockets are laid out nicely and easy to access. Full review

CamelBak BlowFish

rated 4 of 5 stars Great multi-sport must-have! Whether you are hiking, cycling, fishing, or just plain walking, you'll have a hard time finding a product with greater utility. No more bottles rolling around stabbing you in the kidney, no more fumbling through endless pockets searching for a drink! I was given a red Camelbak Blowfish just after my sister gave me a mountain bike. It is hard to say which product was more useful, because Camelbak is built for survival. It holds your money, keys, and quite a bit of gear… Full review

Osprey Manta AG 28

rated 5 of 5 stars Osprey's Manta 28 is the perfect day hiking pack to carry layers, water, and a snack. With Osprey's Anti-Gravity back panel ventilation and foam shoulder straps, this pack sets you up for a cool smooth hike. The free rain cover and water bladder complement the many other features this pack has to offer. My use: I got this pack 3.5 years ago for day hikes and have been using it ever since. I normally hike around 10 miles on day hikes in the New Hampshire Whites or the Green Mountains in Vermont. Full review

Geigerrig Rig 700

rated 4 of 5 stars A tough little hydro pack with lots of cool features, perfect for mountain biking, xc skiing, trail running, or any quick high output outdoor pursuit. Is it worth the steep price tag? Not convinced. A good word for this bag is "trick". It's full of little tricks, some of which I was still discovering a year later. I've had it for about two years now and it looks completely unscathed, having very robust materials. The inside hydration sleeve pocket is a bit stretched out, that's about it. The 700… Full review

Salomon S-Lab Adv Skin 12Set

rated 5 of 5 stars Amazing fit, so many features, and it is variable allowing a lot of flexibility. You'll forget you're wearing it. I definitely don't run much further than 30km at a time, so I was hesitant to pick up a pack designed more for long ultras. But with the variable conditions I run through this has ended up being a fantastic running vest/pack. Despite looking a little silly, I actually take it hiking too just because it is so comfortable. And when I need it just for holding a can of bear spray comfortably… Full review

CamelBak Arete 18

rated 3 of 5 stars The CamelBak Arete 18 is a light, minimalist bag that keeps your water accessible and also has room for a few items to take along on your venture. I got this bag at a great price. There were actually a lot of CamelBak packs available when I got this, but I chose this one because of the lightweight design and minimalist look. I also liked that I had room for a few items that I like to take with me, such as a packable rain jacket, small bottle of OJ, glucose meter, and keys. A little extra room isn't… Full review

Platypus Sprinter XT 35

rated 4 of 5 stars This is a great pack. Well-constructed, waterproof, comfortable (probably more comfortable for men), but it may not fit everyone’s hiking needs niche perfectly. I didn’t really like this pack to start. I had taken it on several day hikes and field work, but I couldn’t figure out its niche. It holds far more than I would take on a day trip, but not enough for my typical overnight. In an attempt to think about what other people would like to know and in reading reviews is when I really started… Full review

Orange Mud HydraQuiver Vest Pack 2

rated 5 of 5 stars Vest pack with two 24 oz bottle holders high on the back. By default, this system has two velcro closed pockets on the shoulder straps for holding small items like food or lighting. Two expandable chest pockets are also included. I purchased this item because I specifically do not like to run with bladder systems. The bottle holders are very easy to reach to grab or place back your hydration and never feels like you're "sloshing." Plenty of pockets come with the system by default and it has the… Full review

UltrAspire Kinetic Bottle Vest

rated 4 of 5 stars Versatile, comfortable, flexible, usable. Skeptical at first, but this pack has become a fave! Normally I don't think I would have picked this pack for myself, I thought I was a bladder guy. After trying it out a few times I was pretty happy with it. I remember a few people asking me about the pack at the time and commenting how my elbows would hit the bottles. That has been no problem at all. The location is in a great spot I think. Lower on the back creates a nice low center of gravity, feels… Full review
