Patagonia Super Pluma Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars Great all around jacket, built for anything. Will keep you dry. I bought this jacket for backpacking, but after a couple uses, it became my everything jacket. Quickly replaced my go-to ski jacket, found myself wearing it for chilly bike rides, short little strolls through the woods, kayaking and canoeing in the spring and fall. Extremely windproof and waterproof, and with its light weight there is really no reason not to bring it along. The first time I took it out on a trip, 65 degree temps dropped… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Mithril Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great waterproof soft shell jacket. Durable and stylish. A great soft shell jacket. I have used it skiing and as a hiking jacket, and it had no problems keeping me dry in rain and snow showers. Also became my around town jacket in the late fall and early spring. It is a good mid weight, not overly warm (which is good for me, I tend to overheat), but provides much more warmth that my other rain shells. Velcro wrist adjustments work great, much prefer them to the elastic style. Plenty of pocket space… Full review

Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2 Rain Suit

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Great lightweight rain suit, but material was not very durable. I purchased this set for a Boy Scout camping trip about a year ago. They were 14 dollars at Walmart, which seemed like a good deal. It comes with its own little storage pouch and they fold down really small and lightweight so packing them in a backpack is easy.   The outer material is some sort of plastic like a tyvek suit. It does a good job of keeping the rain off of you, but without any sort of vents built in you quickly start to… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Helium Hybrid Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A lightweight, breathable jacket, that packs down small, and won't weigh you down. In my never-ending quest to find the perfect lightweight wind shell, I have purchased and re-sold many a jacket. Either the fit is wonky, or there is no breathability, or they provide little protection. I pondered this jacket when I first read about it in Backpacker, and recently found it on sale, so took the bait. The jacket fits very nicely. It is a trim fit around the torso, which enhances its ability to breathe,… Full review

Icebreaker Men's MerinoLOFT Helix Zip Hood

rated 3 of 5 stars A jacket that will keep you warm as long as you keep active, and is not meant for idle time spent in camp. Ideal for daytime winter activity. Best used as an insulating mid layer to supplement water and wind-shedding outerwear, or as a standalone outer layer in milder (“shoulder season”) dry conditions. Sizing up is recommended for users wanting to layer pieces beneath this jacket without compromising their range of mobility. The simple design is well made but under thought, with an ill-fitting… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Down Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars High warmth-to-weight, uber lightweight, packs small. This is a very nice, lightweight down jacket, perfect for throwing in a daypack or backpack for multi-day outings. It uses treated 800 down (Q.Shield), just under 3 oz of fill. The weight of my size Men's Large is 6.9 oz, not many down jackets approach that weight. It packs very small, taking very little space—a very big plus if using a small pack. I've had the jacket out in light rain and snow and the DWR is pretty decent, but I wouldn't… Full review

Rab Flashpoint Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars In point, this jacket is all one needs for a fast and light, fully protected hardshell. See detailed review below. Testing: I tested the Flashpoint Jacket in the best backyard a guy can ask for: Glacier National Park. Scrambling peaks, backcountry ski missions where weight was to be kept at a minimum. It was my go-to shell and my only means of protection from wind/water/snow. Only other thing I'd bring was a good insulated piece. Sizing/Fit: I am a slightly 145 pounds and 5'10" guy, which seems… Full review
