Patagonia Men's Ultralight Down Hoody

rated 3 of 5 stars Overall this is a descent jacket, but it's not as warm as some other jackets out there. The ultralight is a sized down alternative to the classic down sweater. Coming in at just under 300 grams it's one of the lightestweight insulation piece on the market. I've had mine for over two years now, and it's seen it's fair share of use.   The water resistance is good, and it takes an impressive beating for a ultralight down jacket. It also packs down to about the size and shape of a 1L Nalgence which… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Beta LT Hybrid Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Lightweight, packable, with all the features you need This jacket is a lightweight, packable jacket that can be used in a variety of conditions, but is not meant to be your daily driver. Arc'teryx chose Gore Tex PacLite as the waterproof/breathable membrane for this 2.5 Layer jacket which is what makes the jacket so light and packable. Areas of high wear on the jacket have a reinforcement layer to protect the Gore Tex from abbrasion from the inside, although I found the areas of high wear went outside… Full review

Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars I really like it. I started to use for trail and then I started to love it for biking. Fits perfect in my backpacks, really stop the rain and the wind. Super lightweight and packable, the first day I almost forget that I take my jacket in my backpack. Very comfortable, fits perfect and does't matter if I'm very or low active. I can open under my armpit and I can enjoy my activity with more breathability. The cuffs close perfectly. The big pockets are super helpful to carry more things inside and… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Filament Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This ultralight down packable jacket is the perfect addition to my backpacking setup. Lightweight, packable, versatile, warm. This ultralight down packable jacket is the perfect addition to my backpacking setup. Similar to the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer, this jacket is warm, windproof, water resistant (haven't tried it standalone in rain, and wouldn't—nothing worse than wearing wet down), super packable, and super light. I never go on a backpacking trip without this item. It hardly takes… Full review

Arc'teryx Nuclei AR Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Light, compressible, highly water resistant, completely windproof with tape sealed seams. It's also a very good length for my long torso. I recently did a review for the toughest synthetic down jacket you can buy. The Carinthia Alpine jacket. It has reinforced elbow pads and shoulder pads. However it is a little short for me and it is very heavy (940gm!). Both of these problems are solved by Arc'teryx Nuclei AR Jacket. It weighs in at 450gm — less than half the weight. And it fits me perfectly… Full review

Marmot Men's ROM Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Superbly breathable, wind proof, versatile softshell. My go-to layer from fall to spring. At 5'10" 200 lbs, a large fits me pretty well, with room for a fleece or thin puffy underneath. I use it day to day for over half the year, either by itself ~10°C or with a light insulating and base layer down to -10°C when I am active (ex. snowshoeing, hiking, ice climbing). Arms could be longer for climbing, although I have a +2.5" ape so take that with a grain of salt. Also, to stow the extra cord when… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Squamish Hoody

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I now have two of these, the older and less waterproof version circa 2011 and the 2015 one. It's something I use daily. This compact and light piece of reassurance is something that travels with me daily to work, the beach, and the mountains. The hoody acts like my temperature regulation unit. Wearing this (old version) on winter 4K summits in the East has surprised me since I've expected to be much colder in my layering system. In fact there have been at least two times that I've worn a merino… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Beta AR Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Arc'teryx tough, waterproof, and roomy enough to wear a reasonable size layer underneath. Size correctly, I usually wear a medium, and the piece is spot on. I use it for hiking/trekking, but it would likely work as well for skiing, climbing and general use. I withheld half a star because the price is a bit stiff, even on sale. Here I will only add information about Beta AR's practicality. Arc'teryx obviously spent time and money picking the best materials (Gore-Tex Pro and fabric that can withstand… Full review

Marmot Men's Sharp Point Jacket

rated 3 of 5 stars Expensive! Durable as it lasted a few years and still good. Windproof but water resistant. Fleece backing means that it's not insulated, but provides a little warmth combined with the windproofness. Wear through cool autumn temps but not winter as it's not insulated. Tight fit esp. in arms/shoulders/chest so need to size up for layering. Bought an older version from years ago and it still fits. Appears that Marmot is finally retiring this jacket. It's windproof and water resistant. It can be worn… Full review
