MontBell Men's U.L. TEC Down Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars This is an older jacket I just picked up very lightly used from the original owner. I will update this review once I can get a honest cold weather review. This is an older jacket I just picked up very lightly used from the original owner. I will update this review once I can get a honest cold weather review. This is my first high quality down jacket as the lightweight / ultralight bug has bitten me though as the original owner informed me that this no longer qualifies as ultralight as age plays… Full review

Patagonia Men's Houdini Pullover

rated 4 of 5 stars A very light, yet effective wind shirt for many uses. It is durable and comfortable to wear, and it packs down to the size of a stick of deodorant. The Patagonia Houdini Pullover is a simple, yet effective wind shirt that is very useful in many situations. It fits true to size, and I love wearing it with a Patagonia Snap-T fleece underneath, because the two garments have very similar styles and sizes that feel as though they were made to go together. The shirt does not have many ways to adjust it,… Full review

Marmot Men's Ether DriClime Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars The Marmot Ether Driclime Wind Jacket is just about the only piece of my outdoor clothes closet that always gets packed—year round. It’s a great wind jacket that keeps the chill off in a solid breeze through major wind gusts, is water repellent, and breathes well while providing some insulation. The perfect “not too hot – not too cold” shell for my metabolism on most trips throughout the year. Light and quick-drying, it’s difficult to find a reason to leave it behind. When Trailspace… Full review

Montane Featherlite Down Pro Pull-On

rated 4 of 5 stars The Montane Featherlite Down Pro Pull-On provides oven-like temperatures even when the thermometer shows readings below zero. The minimalist design features help keep in the warmth while also providing essential features like helmet compatibility and waist belt clearing pockets. A great option for ski touring transitions, time on summits, or hikes during cold days. Testing Conditions: I was able to test the Montane Featherlite Down Pro Pull-On during the winter of 2016-2017. I reserved this jacket… Full review

The North Face McMurdo Parka II

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Good parka for the money, but not the best!!! Customizing this parka can make it decent and well worth the time and effort in preparing it for real winter use while saving money. Fit: I'm 5'10" 200 lbs and XL was perfect. Most people say the parka runs large. Fit & Comfort: Comfortable and drawstrings at waist and hips work well. I purchased this parka knowing I'd have to make some changes to it to make it a real workable piece of clothing for winter time use. I researched the best parkas available… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Sidewinder SV Jacket

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Would not recommend. Product failed and I had really poor customer service experiences with the Arc'teyrx. Disappointed with the performance. Went on a ski/snowboarding trip and the jacket failed at the left arm seam. This was an obvious failure of the arm stitching and I really expected more from this jacket which was marketed as being one of the most durable snow jackets. I didn't have any major falls beyond what is normal and the jacket was purchased less than a year ago and only used for 10-12… Full review

Montane Minimus 777 Pull-On

rated 4 of 5 stars The Montane Minimus 777 is a 3-layer waterproof breathable jacket that eschews weight by using 7 denier fabrics for the membrane, inner and outer face (hence the name). It is spartan by design, but at only 4.7 oz still packs a hood, elasticized hem and cuffs, singular chest pocket, and water resistant zip. It would be best for trail running, thru hikers, or UL backpackers. FIT *For reference I am 6 foot, 170 lbs and received a men's large (42" chest, 34" waist). The fit of this jacket is spot on. Sierra Designs Women's Elite Cagoule

rated 3 of 5 stars Sizing is all wrong. I ordered a medium, had to return it. Then a large, had to return that one. While my proportions are a little larger on top, I have never had to order an extra large before.   Anyway once I was done with the exchange hassle, I was beyond pleased:   The garment (sorry: cagoule is an idiotic term for this, it's a French word that means balaclava) is long, it hits down at mid thigh, which is great if you use it with the rain chaps that go with it. Water drips down well below… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Transition Hoody

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Outdoor Research Transition Hoody is a bare bones fleece that integrates perfectly into a 3+ season layer system. Highly recommended for hiking, snowshoeing, ski touring, fat biking, or around town. I tested the Outdoor Research (OR) Transition Hoody between Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire. Temperatures ranged from the mid 50s to just below zero. The Transition Hoody was part of my layer system while hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, alpine touring,… Full review
