Eddie Bauer Men's Superior Down Parka

rated 5 of 5 stars Extremely warm, high quality, luxurious parka, at an amazing price. This is the best parka I have ever owned. I was looking for an Air Force Parka, and it was hard to find an actual jacket rather than a copy - So I started looking for alternatives, as I did not wish to spend $1000 for a Canada Goose Parka. I have had it for a few weeks, and it is windproof, water beads on the surface like a freshly waxed car, and it is comfortable in below zero windchills. I'm still discovering many of the features… Full review

Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars Lightweight, cost effective rain shell. I picked up the Marmot Precip because I needed a lightweight and packable waterproof shell that wouldn't break the bank. I use it for everything from around town when it's raining, summer backpack trips in the High Sierra and Cascades, AND climbing trips. I knew from previous reviews that the jacket was not the most breathable, however the pit zips allow me to regulate my temperature during exertion. If I pay attention to my level of exertion and open the… Full review

Montane Hi-Q Luxe Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This jacket screams PERFORMANCE!!! A highly water resistant/windproof mid-weight synthetic jacket that continues to perform when wet, yet still has the positive attributes in a goose down jacket. PRIMALOFT GOLD Luxe synthetic fill is much lighter and more compressible than previously available synthetic fills. Along with a redesigned cuff/sleeve configuration, this jacket excels with temperature regulation, making it an ideal three-season piece of gear for hikers, backpackers, and anyone that loves… Full review

Fjallraven Yupik Parka

rated 2 of 5 stars This jacket lasted two months. This jacket lasted two months. I used it nearly every day for things ranging from ski practice to walking to class. I bought it specifically for the wind and cold that I experience nearly daily during the winter. It was great. Unfortunately after a very wet race weekend it needed a wash and dry. After going through the drier (tumble dry low) the hood came out melted. This is strange considering my speed suit was also in there with it, that being a much more heat sensitive… Full review

Xersion Packable Down Midweight Jacket

rated 3 of 5 stars Inexpensive down clothing for trail or town. These products come from JC Penny. I do not know if they are sold elsewhere. They list from $75 to $100 each, sell normally for about $60 and can be found on sale for about $30. I bought the orange one for $20. These jackets and vest are filled with 90% down and 10% feathers. The vest is a lady's with stretch elastic nylon sides for a tighter fit. They are light and warm. We own one vest and three jackets... all are zippered. The wife wears her jacket… Full review

Bergans Women's Torfinnstind Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Torfinnstind Jacket is a soft-shell hybrid that provides comfort and stretch while repelling wind and water. Whether hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, alpine skiing, or backcountry ski touring, the Torfinnstind has been my most consistent outdoor adventure companion throughout the fall and winter months this season. This versatility across climate and sport earns it a consistent home in my pack (on the rare occasion in which I’m not already wearing it when I leave the house). Full review

The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka

rated 2 of 5 stars Not nearly as warm as it looks. All "Cons" mentioned here are spot on. I bought this at Macy's in the winter of 2009 in NYC. I believe I paid about $300 for it. It's not worth $200. I agree with all of the "Cons" I've read about it here: cold arms and upper back, poorly conceived and shaped hood. Useless removable ruff faux fur on the hood. Bizarre placement of adjustment cords (inside hidden pockets). If you have the extra $200 get the Canada Goose. Really heavy-bulky for what it does. Full review

Eddie Bauer Men's First Ascent Peak XV Down Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Excellent product. I took it trailing in Russia at minus 25 C. Jacket never gave up. Underneath I wore a poly thermal. No issues at all. My gloves gave up, but not the jacket. A true cold weather beast. I was outside for no less then 4 hours at a time. Fantastic jacket. The only jacket I take to the Russian forests in minus 20 to 25 Celsius, never misses a beat. You may read other reviews on more expensive jackets and think you need to spend more money. Take my word for it. This is a sub zero… Full review

Patagonia Men's R2 Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars I'm writing this mainly because my version of the R4 is drastically different from the others reviewed below. This is a great layering piece, but doesn't make it into my pack very often because I rarely go out into the conditions in which it would be useful. I mainly wear it under a puffy coat during those bitter cold, windy Missouri Januarys and Februarys. I purchased this jacket for $2 at a thrift store in Stockton, Calif. I don't know how old it is, but I believe it to be several seasons older… Full review
