Arc'teryx Men's Sidewinder SV Jacket

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Would not recommend. Product failed and I had really poor customer service experiences with the Arc'teyrx. Disappointed with the performance. Went on a ski/snowboarding trip and the jacket failed at the left arm seam. This was an obvious failure of the arm stitching and I really expected more from this jacket which was marketed as being one of the most durable snow jackets. I didn't have any major falls beyond what is normal and the jacket was purchased less than a year ago and only used for 10-12… Full review

Montane Minimus 777 Pull-On

rated 4 of 5 stars The Montane Minimus 777 is a 3-layer waterproof breathable jacket that eschews weight by using 7 denier fabrics for the membrane, inner and outer face (hence the name). It is spartan by design, but at only 4.7 oz still packs a hood, elasticized hem and cuffs, singular chest pocket, and water resistant zip. It would be best for trail running, thru hikers, or UL backpackers. FIT *For reference I am 6 foot, 170 lbs and received a men's large (42" chest, 34" waist). The fit of this jacket is spot on. Sierra Designs Women's Elite Cagoule

rated 3 of 5 stars Sizing is all wrong. I ordered a medium, had to return it. Then a large, had to return that one. While my proportions are a little larger on top, I have never had to order an extra large before.   Anyway once I was done with the exchange hassle, I was beyond pleased:   The garment (sorry: cagoule is an idiotic term for this, it's a French word that means balaclava) is long, it hits down at mid thigh, which is great if you use it with the rain chaps that go with it. Water drips down well below… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Transition Hoody

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Outdoor Research Transition Hoody is a bare bones fleece that integrates perfectly into a 3+ season layer system. Highly recommended for hiking, snowshoeing, ski touring, fat biking, or around town. I tested the Outdoor Research (OR) Transition Hoody between Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire. Temperatures ranged from the mid 50s to just below zero. The Transition Hoody was part of my layer system while hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, alpine touring,… Full review

Craghoppers Men's 364 3-in-1 Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Longer-length rain jacket with zipped-in synthetic insulating jacket. The outer jacket is not suitable for hiking, but the inner on its own is. I was surprised to find the Craghoppers 364 3-in-1 jacket listed on Trailspace because I would not consider it a hiking jacket. It is made of a stiff polycotton canvas, meaning that it is bulky and heavy even without the inner insulated jacket. Furthermore the hood is the urban variety, adjustable to some extent thanks to waxed cords on the front and a tab… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Dragon Hooded Jacket

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Not as waterproof as it should be. I'm a big fan of Mountain Hardwear products having bought many of their jackets and pants in the last 10 years or more. Most of their products I must say I have bought for wet weather protection rather than skiing, including Conduit Silk and DryQ Elite products. I bought the Dragon Hooded Jacket expecting to get a jacket like the Epic series of jackets, but with more features. I've loved the Epic jackets and have owned a few and although they may not have been… Full review

Mammut Kento Jacket

rated 3.5 of 5 stars High quality build, claims to be complete waterproof and windproof. Pretty lightweight, good for hiking, summer alpine climbing, or just for using everyday. This jacket is very well built in terms of materials, zippers, etc. I have not tested it yet in serious conditions but DryTech Premium and Mammut have good reputations.  It isn't very cheap for a 2.5 layer jacket, but seems to be very versatile.  It is quite lightweight and can be used for a wide range of activities from climbing, hiking,… Full review

Columbia Watertight II Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars A great entry level, lightweight jacket perfect for warmer weather from Canadian spring to fall. The Columbia Watertight Jacket is a great entry level rain jacket. It's meant to keep you dry, and it does just that! It's very simple, with not many bells or whistles, but it fits true to size and looks pretty sharp. I find it to be very comfortable to wear with just a t shirt or long sleeve underneath, but if you are looking to wear a fleece or thicker shirt, I would recommend buying a size up.  The… Full review

Outdoor Research Women's Skyward Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars The Skyward Jacket by Outdoor Research is a hardshell jacket that is as flexible and comfortable as a softshell layer and is also waterproof! Designed for winter conditions, the Skyward is an excellent companion wherever the snow may take you. It’s heavier than other hardshell jackets on the market and keeps me warm and toasty even in sub-zero temperatures. However, these features may not be ideal for ultralighters or those who live in mild winter climates. Conditions: I tested the women’s Skyward… Full review
