User Review: Katadyn Micropur MP1 Purification Tablets

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars

I have used these tablets on a few trips so far, as my only method of water treatment (other than filtering through a bandana if there's obvious crud). In order to keep my pack weight down, I wanted to avoid carrying a filter. However, I didn't like the idea of using iodine tablets, decided chlorine dioxide sounded better, but didn't want to use a liquid product like Aquamira drops (too much chance of spillage). So, when I found out the chlorine dioxide was available in tablet form it sounded ideal.

So far I have no complaints. The tablets dissolve quickly and leave minimal taste in the water; the taste is no worse than regular tap water. They are supposed to kill any organisms we would have to worry about in US water, including Giardia.

If you're looking to keep weight to a minimum without taking the risk of getting sick from the water, these tablets are a great solution. Just make sure you have a way to open the foil wrapping; there's no easy-tear tab so you will have to use your knife or the scissors on your multi-tool.
