Wilderness Systems Tarpon 100

rated 5 of 5 stars Are you looking for a moderate sized, sit-on-top kayak that's easy to transport, comfortable to sit in, handles well, and is capable of carrying enough gear for a backcountry adventure? Then you should consider the Wilderness Systems TARPON 100 sit-on-top kayak. I've prepared an in-depth video review of the Wilderness Systems TARPON 100 sit-on-top kayak.  I bought this kayak as a birthday gift for my wife, but I love it so much I'm considering getting one for myself. This 10 foot-long kayak weighs… Full review

Oru Kayak Bay ST

rated 5 of 5 stars The 2017 Oru Kayak Bay ST is light, extremely portable, easy to assemble, and strong. It is pricy, but that’s the tradeoff for its weight and portability. i purchased the Bay ST and the Beach LT from REI online for my wife and me after we inspected and sat in them at the 2017 REI Labor Day sale. I had them shipped to my local REI for pickup. Both fit inside my Toyota Prius. When I got them home, I assembled each in my backyard. The folds were pretty stiff during the first few times I assembled… Full review

Folbot Greenland II

rated 5 of 5 stars Through a gator-infested river in Guatemala to Belize and north to the mighty St. Lawrence river of Ontario, Canada, the Greenland II never let me down. The Greenland II design always caught my attention. In the early nineties I called Folbot in South Carolina requesting a ready to ship two seater. The kind lady on the Folbot end stated that a blue Greenland II was indeed available. Two days later, I picked up the kayak at the Miami International Airport cargo area. The fine craft arrived with me… Full review

Pakboats XT-15 Solo

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A 15' solo folding, skin-on-frame kayak. I had been looking at Pakboats for a few years now and was tossing around my options, canoe or kayak? I live in an apartment and unless I was willing to go on a waiting list at my local canoe club for a storage spot I would most likely have to go the folding or inflatable route—carrying a canoe or kayak up 16 flights of stairs was out of the question. As I don't have a car, transporting it was also an issue, so a folding boat made the most sense. It all… Full review

Elie Sound 100 XE

rated 5 of 5 stars Terrific overall kayak. Purchased new in April 2014 from REI. Wanted to find a good kayak for recreational use that wouldn't break the bank. Settled on two Elie Sound 100XE's at around $600 piece.   Having used three years now, I feel I can give some insight.   Majority of use has been on calm waters—lakes, creeks, and streams. I imagine a high end one can really move, but I have no issues moving quickly in this. Decent balance in width. Creature Comforts—The seat is very comfortable, allows… Full review

Eddyline Sea Star

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Light, fast, long boat with ample storage and big-sea capabilities. I purchased this boat used 5-6 years ago because I needed something faster and lighter for a few competitive endeavors such as Sea to Summit (12 miles paddling upstream in the tidal Piscataqua River from its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean, 93 miles biking, and a 8.5 mile run/hike to the top of Mount Washington 6288ft above the starting line). This boat is very fast, but also much more versatile than I originally expected, with lots… Full review

Current Designs Sirocco

rated 3 of 5 stars Stable in waves and cross chop. I have been in worse, imagine there are better. The kayak is smooth to reach its hull speed 4.5 mph or so then hits the wall pretty hard, which can take some of the fun out of riding breaking waves. The boat has a tendency to stick rather than glide. Splashes up wind in a chop, surprising me with a face washing now and then. Turns well in and about the rocks. Wanders a bit in open waters, deploying the skeg helps. The skeg control works amazing well for being over… Full review

Dagger Axis 12

rated 3.5 of 5 stars The Dagger Axis 12 is my first kayak. Not the first I've ever paddled, but the first I've ever owned. I've got more background with canoeing. Ease of Use  The Dagger Axis 12 is pretty easy to get right into and use. But the seat is highly customizable, so you might want to spend a little time on dry land getting that dialed in before you take it out on the water. Some adjustment on the water is possible, but not convenient. There are also adjustable foot pegs which I've found a little easier to… Full review

Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 Ultralite

rated 3 of 5 stars Nice lightweight kayak. Roomy large cockpit. Defect in manufacturing, screws at handles cause cracking and eventual breakage of material. At first I loved this kayak, but after just a few uses, I noticed the handles starting to crack around the screw. This was under warranty, I've been waiting for over three months for a replacement with no delivery date yet to be seen. Now I have a hole in my kayak and can not use it. The material is very flimsy. If you fall out of the kayak and try to climb back… Full review
