Impex Kayak Montauk

rated 5 of 5 stars A true sports car in the world of kayaks, the low-volume Impex Montauk is a classic amongst Greenland or British style boats. Even in the limited and more refined world of skeg boats, she scores amongst the top for her responsiveness, stability, and comfort. Background: After 8 years of paddling and owning multiple kayaks of various styles and sizes, I was fortunate to come across an ad for an Impex Montauk on Craigslist. My very first touring kayak was a Seda Swift, and while a great boat in its… Full review

Dagger Katana 10.4

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I purchased this boat for flexibility on small creeks, rivers, and some surf play as an alternate to my touring sea kayaks. I am very pleased with this boat. This boat is not a rec boat, yet is for an experienced kayaker. I live on a river where the flow varies day to day due to dams/flood control. Some days it is a grinder, others it is swift and dangerous. I purchased the Katana 10.4 as an alternative to the expedition touring kayaks that I have. Spoiled by the speed and tracking of a sea kayak,… Full review

Tributary Tomcat Tandem

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Overall a good inflatable kayak and fun to use. I like the length of this kayak—plenty of leg space for both people. I don't like the valve covers very well. I prefer the kind on the NRS Outlaw II.  I also prefer the seat valves on the Outlaw II over the ones on the Tomcat. This is a fun kayak and is good in both calm and white water. I don't like how water catches in the front and the back of the self bailer when you are done and want to dry it out. When I get home I have to unroll it and let… Full review

Eddyline Sea Star

rated 5 of 5 stars Solid kayak with a nice balance of volume, speed, and stability. Glad to see that these fine kayaks are still out there.  After trying various kayaks at Seattle's NWOC and renting a couple different models from Eddyline through the 1990's, I decided on a Sea Star. My 1999 Sea Star was purchased used from the owner of Eddyline around 2002.  It was one of his personal boats with a custom two-color fade on the top deck. It was stored under his home's north eave next to a cherry tree and was looking… Full review

Old Town Dirigo 106

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great rec kayak for lakes and slow rivers, capable of light overnight trips. Have had this kayak almost three years. I've dragged it, banged it, shot over ice and hit bottom more than a few times. Aside from a few scratches, the hull is perfectly intact.  It's easy to get in and out of, has a very comfortable and well adjustable seat, a fairly big water-tight hatch on the back (enough for a tent and sleeping gear), a little water-tight hatch on the dash for keys or a cellphone (I use this hatch… Full review

Eddyline Sea Star

rated 5 of 5 stars Amazing kayak. Very well built and designed. Its long water line gives it speed and allows it to track well. Moderate to high-volume boat which can be used on anything from weekends to longer expeditions. Rudder is probably its Achilles heel and can lose its shape in very hot weather. All in all a superb craft. I have been the proud owner of an Eddyline Sea Star since the very early '90s and it's difficult to say enough good things about it. I've taken this boat on twelve-day salt and freshwater… Full review

Eddyline Sea Star

rated 5 of 5 stars The 18' 6" Sea Star is long out of production and Eddyline's longest boat now is just over 16'. I have the Kevlar version and it is, at that length, FAST! I bought this kayak when it first came out in '91 partly because Tom Derrer, the owner of Eddyline, changed the stern profile at my suggestion at the LL Bean 1990 Sea Kayak Symposium. I was amazed he did this. Of course the main reason was that here was an American designed and built sea kayak of very high quality materials and construction that… Full review

Perception Carolina 14

rated 4 of 5 stars My first kayak... Found for $150 on CL and I love it. Still looking for a spray skirt, but otherwise, I've had quite few nice paddles in the south sound with this boat. It's sturdy, yet easy to maneuver. Full review

Perception Access 11.5

rated 4 of 5 stars Very good kayak for anyone from beginners to seasoned veterans. Plenty of on deck space. Lots of cockpit room and deck rigging standard. First impressions: Nice, lightweight kayak. Easy to grab handles at the ends and hand holds in the sides. The handles front and rear are also molded into the kayak so no more handle hardware being pulled through the plastic. They are large and easy to grab and make for excellent tie down points for car-topping. You can easily lift this kayak up and load it on… Full review
