GSI Outdoors Spice Rack

Expensive and slightly on the heavy side, but a good option for a weekend or 3-day trip. One of my pandemic projects has been assembling a small spice kit to use while backpacking and camping. I settled on a selection of six spices, with salt and sugar to be carried separately: onion powder, garlic powder, ground cayenne pepper, citric acid, ajinomoto (msg), and ground ginger. I can make a lot of tasty things out of that. If I could add one or two more spices, I'd add cinnamon and probably cardamom… Full review

humangear GoToob+

Great container for camping condiments. With the GoToob+, I decided to homemake a special hot dog sauce ahead of time and bring it to the campsite with me in the GoToob+.  It worked perfectly! I especially love the new feature, called the LoopLock that slips up over the top of the cap as an extra security against leaks. When I have all my food packed for camping, the last thing I want to think about is leaking sticky sauce all over everything. Awesome feature. Here is the recipe for the Sweet Campin’… Full review

Coghlan's Squeeze Tubes

We used these in 1973 while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. I don't think they ever failed. We used them for peanut butter, jam, and honey. We kept them in the cooking pot so they wouldn't be squeezed. My brother Michael and I think they were a great tool. The only problem with them was we emptied them to fast. Full review

Coghlan's Squeeze Tubes

I use them for peanut butter. Haven't had a problem cleaning them. Put the cap on, fill with water, and let sit to loosen the peanut butter. I also use a jar/bottle cleaner. For butter, I use the small plastic containers McCormick spices come in. I also use small (unused) urine containers I got from my internist. The only problem I have had with them is the prongs on the clips are prone to breaking. I have seen clips for sale but don't recall where. Full review

Coghlan's Squeeze Tubes

There is nothing better but... Once upon a time these were first sold by the Gerry company, a once famed maker of packframes that later degenerated into selling solely baby carriers. I first used these around my freshman year in college, somewhere around 1972 I think. At that time they were commonly known as Gerry tubes. They were advocated by our friend Colin Fletcher as a container for margarine but he noted that an excellent use would be for peanut butter, which is true. I have used them for… Full review

Coghlan's Store 'N Pour Contain-Alls

A collection of small containers perfect for carrying small portions rather than full containers. Five bottles, two with flip spouts, plus two round containers with snap lids. Came across this today while picking up some fishing line and decided to add a second set of these to the family inventory. I've been using the first set for six years now and it is still in use. Just wanted to get some more for the girls to use this summer. These things have an endless number of uses depending on what you… Full review

Coghlan's Squeeze Tubes

A backpacker's classic, these reusable food tubes are great for viscous foods like smooth peanut butter, honey, or jam. Their weakness is the brittle plastic bar used to seal them, but with reasonable care — or a strip of duct tape — they will hold up for years. A classic that hasn't yet been reviewed on Trailspace! I'm happy to patch the hole. These reusable food tubes have been available in outdoor supply stores for about as long as I can remember. We still have an old, well-used pair and… Full review
