Comfort, comfort and comfort! Those are the three words that I would use to describe the Kelty LaSal. This is the most comfortable pack I have ever owned! The Lockdown Suspension system on it is simply awesome. It is extremely adjustable, and with the included "fitting directions" it is quite easy to dial in just the right fit.
Some of the highlights of the suspension include 1) a "positive" torso length adjustment system, which really does "lock down" after it is adjusted 2) two vertical aluminum stays which can be easily removed and recurved for an optimum fit 3) a back pad with a horizontal aluminum stay and plastic sheet which contribute greatly to pack stability 4) oversized hipbelt and shoulder straps with generous padding, and 5) a very cool feature of the hipbelt which allows the straps to be tightened inwards instead of outwards. A simple idea, but it makes a world of difference when stugging the hipbelt tight.
The overall design of the pack is excellent incorporating bombproof materials and outstanding craftsmanship. Although I don't normally carry heavy loads, I have taken this pack out with 60+ pounds and it carried the weight very well. With load of 50 pounds or less, the weight is barely noticeable.
Organization with the pack is a snap too. It has two large side pockets as well as a large top pocket which converts to a very comfortable fanny pack for day trips. Inside the pack is a "slab pocket" which keeps heavier items close to your back for increased stability. There is a large zippered opening for sleeping bag access, as well as a zip away internal divider.
This is an outstanding pack for the money. In fact, personally, I wouldn't trade it for any other pack at any price. Well, maybe a Terraplane (if money wasn't an issue). However, if you are in the market for a versatile pack with a very high level of comfort (at a reasonable price), then the LaSal is a great choice. I highly recommend it!!!

VERSITILITY! This pack is extremely comfortable, handling heavy loads for weeks but still not to much for those weekend trips. The lockdown technology fits to every, and I mean every back. I have a fractured vertebra and this back lets me backpack all day. I recommend this pack for the beginner all the way up to the advanced crusaders.
