My partner thought I was crazy to order a jacket made by a company best known for their outdoor furniture, but, when it comes to fabrics that repel bad weather, these good folk have it coming on. I ordered the Cali because, to be honest, despite activity, I've developed a bit of a pooch. For those men out there who do not know the word, don't worry about it, the women understand just fine. I wanted a jacket that wouldn't bind under the weight of regular fall and winter wear.

Anyway, the photo I saw of it on the SierraTradingPost.com web site made the jacket appear fully cut, and I am delighted to say that this is true. Despite keeping out all the wet of a Pacific Northwest winter, the Cali manages to have room to move around in--without making me look like a tank on spindly legs.

That Mr. Gore, what a brilliant fellow. I remember when Dad had his arteries replaced with medical Gore-Tex. At the hopsital, he whispered, "Just what the heck is that stuff, anyway?" to which I was able to take off my boots and show him the liner material. He was amazed at how it can keep moisture from flowing in while venting moisture out. And the Cali does this just fine. Warm, snug, looks sporty, without resembling something that just came off Mt. Baker (though I think I'd feel safe wearing it there on anything but the worst of winter's days).

(The coat cost $99, but, with a promotion code from one of their magazines, I got it for less than $85.)
