User Review: Leki Carbonlite Aergon XL Antishock
Rating: ![]()
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $140
Summary
Good for days hikes and long treks alike. Very lightweight but rigid with good antishock system.
Pros
- Very lightweight
- Comfortable grips and wrist straps
- Very good antishock system
Excellent lightweight trekking pole with comfortable grip. This pole is essentially the Leki Carbonlite Aergon Antishock trekking pole plus XL grip. The XL (extra-length) grips allow you to grasp the pole shaft below the hand grip while ascending steep inclines.
To briefly recap my earlier review of the Carbonlite Aergon AS poles, they are very lightweight but sturdy with less flex than aluminum poles that I've used. The antishock system effectively dampens the vibration (feedback) of the poles when they strike hard surfaces like granite. The Aergon grip is comfortable and the wrist strap is quick and easy to adjust.
Pole slippage is not a problem with the twist lock system if you keep the inside of the poles clean and free of dirt and replace the locking expanders periodically.
I went snowshoeing with these poles a couple of months ago after replacing the performance baskets with snowflake baskets. Slippage was never a problem even in the cold.
