Peregrine Saker 35

This synthetic bag is very light and compressible and has some nice features for an extremely reasonable price point

First off, I have absolutely no idea why it is so hard to find reviews on this bag. This bag really is a great synthetic option and I can't understand why there is such limited information about it!

There is the constant battle of synthetic vs down. Weight vs comfort. How compressible is it vs. how durable it is and so on. Well personally I think the Peregrine Saker 35 is a solution based bag to all of these debates. 

I mainly use this sleeping bag as later winter/ spring sleeping bag during the wet seasons. This sleeping bag is filled with a Continuous Fiber Perefill synthetic with a temperature rating of 35°F. In which case at 35°F it does its job! The synthetic insulation will keep its heating properties when wet making this a great bag for all seasons.

The Perefill insulation packs down to a very reasonable 14"x7.6". Considering it's longer than most regular bags, measuring 86", the pack size is fairly impressive in my opinion. Not to mention its carry weight is only 2Lbs 3 Oz. Out of that 35 oz's 20.5 of it is fill. For a synthetic sleeping bag that is longer than normal, the stats are fairly impressive, especially when you consider a price point of $79.95-89.95.

Now as far as loft, this is not your biggest, puffiest, bag, when unpacked. Actually it's fairly flat and not the best for comfort. I would highly recommend using a sleeping pad as this bag seems to focus more on overall packed size and feature, not as much on comfort/padding. 

The shell is crafted from a 30D 360T Micro Rip-stop nylon coated with a DWR allowing it repel most condensation. The liner is also a 30D 360T smooth weave nylon for comfort. Speaking of comfort, although not the thickest most "comfy" bag it does most definitely provide many extra comfort features.

This bag comes standard with a neck baffle that can be cinched easily with the pull of a chord, and a zipper baffle keeping out all the cold winds that you might run into but can also be Velcro'd into place for warmer nights.

The hood fits very well and can also be cinched down around your face. The hood has a nice baffle as well allowing you to cinch around your face, at the same time allowing the fabric to come down and cover a bit more of your face. The inside has a nice chest stow pocket for easy access in the middle of the night. It also comes with a waterproof seam taped stuff sack


and a nice extra large storage sack


which is a great idea at its price. It has two loops on the articulated foot box to hang your bag to dry.


The zipper snags far less than most bags I have used, although I would like to see it come with a two handled zipper. It comes with one which works fine, I just like the idea of two. It is a bit less messing around. You can zip from the bottom up as well in order to vent your bag on warmer evenings, or unzip it completely and use it as a quilt.

The fit: the fit is much different than what I am used to. To start, this bag is longer than your standard 72" which makes it feel like you have a ton of extra room. It's cut more " fitted " than other bags in the waist, but the mummy design allows you plenty of room to roll over and move around at night.

Also, given the extra length, it allows the bag to move a bit more freely over me and I never get the feeling the bag is twisted or too tight. 

So far after two seasons of fairly good winter/spring hiking (800 miles or so) this bag has held up really well. I do see where over time the neck baffle, and the chord running through it, will wear and tear, but really its a ways off and I would completely expect that.

I'm not known to be real graceful with things and I use it constantly. Paired with a sleeping bag liner, this is a really good lightweight synthetic option for backacking. I highly recommend more people use this bag. Why there is NOTHING on it stil drives me crazy. Over all it's reliable, light, small, warm, and CHEAP!
