Lowe Alpine Mountain 32

rated 2.0 of 5 stars

The Mountain 32 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best daypacks for 2024.

Waist Belt
It has no extra belt length giving it ZERO room for adjustment. You need a waist of 32 or below to even put this pack on. An extra 2 inches of belt length would be nice in order to make any on-the-fly adjustments.

Grab Loop
Its the size of a jelly bean and virtually impossible to grab when taking the pack off. It has already caused excessive wear and tear to the shoulder straps because of this.

Storage Compartments
Overall it has a decent array of storage areas and compression pockets (I love the external, full length pocket - It is perfect for putting a base layer or fleece in), but for some reason there is a low cut mesh pocket on the waist belt that for all intensive purposes is worthless. It would be perfect for chapstick & sunscreen, but with no way to keep it closed everything I put in there easily bounces out during runs. Also, it would be nice to have at least one ice axe loop and maybe a daisy chain.

Weight Distribution
Some of it has to do with the fact that the waist belt is too short, but regardless the entire distribution of weight for the pack falls squarely on the shoulder straps. One main reason is because the entire backbone of the back rests completely on a weak foam pad. In any case the max load rating I have given this pack is a little over 10 pounds.

Storage
Overall it is the only bright spot. This top loader has enough room for all my race necessities and the bladder pocket is a welcome touch.

Breathability
Put it this way, it's like wearing a cotton t-shirt.

Overall
This is NOT an adventure racing pack. I have had school napsacks with more support and better feel than this bag...
