Mountainsmith Tour TLS

rated 4.5 of 5 stars No one is arguing that fanny packs make you look cool. But its durability and comfort make the Mountainsmith Tour TLS pack a pretty great choice for day hikes, cross country skiing, and using as a man-purse (or lady purse) around town. Fit: This fanny lumbar pack will fit most adults, although the heavier you are, the less coverage you'll get from the light padding on the hipbelt. I have a 32 inch waist and I might get nervous if I was skinnier than a 30 inch waist. Mountainsmith says it will work… Full review

Salomon XT Twin Belt

rated 2.5 of 5 stars in my opinion, this pack is more suitable for hiking than running. The first time I ran with the Salomon XT Twin belt on I had to alter my arm swing because my elbows kept hitting off the pack due to the bottles being placed on an angle. I am not sure if my short stature (I am 5'4") and small hip width had anything to do with it. My fiancé tried it on and didn't experience the same problem, so I would imagine the design of the pack is geared toward men. I even think I could get used to the sloshing… Full review

Mountainsmith Day TLS

rated 4 of 5 stars My top choice day pack. This is my go-to pack unless I need to bring extra clothing. It is the largest MS fanny pack I believe and can hold rain gear, lunch, and two quart size water bottles. The elastic will hold a shedded jacket or sweatshirt on the outside.  Useful interior and outside pockets.  More comfortable to wear with the optional Strapettes, but still very little weight on shoulders. I am 6'4" and the strapettes will hit their stops if I relax them and then you have to take the pack… Full review

Mountainsmith Day

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Super solid design, with plenty of space for my frisbee, books, and bike tools. I added the extra padded waist belt to make it more stable and comfortable, which I highly recommend. I've had mine for years — totally bombproof design, and a great warranty, just in case! I bought this bigger bag so I could fit a frisbee, which it does comfortably. They have only continued to improve on the design over the years. Full review

Salomon Active Insulated Belt

rated 4 of 5 stars A great hydration option for a light trip in the backcountry. The Salomon Active Insulated Belt is my go-to for hydration on short winter excursions. I bought it for nordic  skiing, but have found that I also use it backcountry skiing and snowshoeing. I love having a belt in the winter, as opposed to a small pack, as it keeps my shoulders free from fatigue. They become tired enough from poling as it is. It was a new purchase for me this winter season, and I am looking forward to giving it a try… Full review

Mountainsmith Tour

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Perfect for day hikes. Great size. I was debating between this and the larger Day model. I am glad I went with the Tour. It can store plenty of gear for day hikes and is still compact enough. Everything I was looking for. I place the shoulder strap pad on my neck and wrap the strap around the front of my shoulders, kind of like a backpack. With it just barely snugged it takes some weight off the hips with heavy loads.  Full review

UltrAspire Quantum Belt

rated 4 of 5 stars The Quantum belt is in a category of its own. It is lightweight, low profile and can carry enough nutrition for several hours. The product could be used for quick 2-4 hour hikes where you don't want to lug around a bulky pack, or for running races on sporadically supported courses. *Disclosure: I own a running specialty store and UltrAspire is a brand that I sell. I was given this product for review purposes and was able to keep it. When I first tried this out for a 1.5 hour run I was concerned… Full review

CamelBak Delaney DC

rated 3 of 5 stars OK running pack. This is great pack for running except when fully loaded with fluid. It is confining to have that much water in one area. The fit is great and there is minimal bounce. I suggest using smaller bottles. The Camelbak jet valves are awesome. Makes for a good 10-15 mile. Full review

Nathan Speed 4

rated 5 of 5 stars Super for long road runs. This is a great pack for long road runs. It holds your ID, a gel or two, and 4 (8) ounce flasks. I think there is a real advantage to having 4 small flasks than one large 220z water bottle on your back. The weight distributes evenly and allows for better movement. Full review
