You already know that you need to study the snowpack, make cautious decisions, and back down from questionably-stable slopes, but even the most seasoned snow guru can make mistakesso it's never a bad idea to roll with backup, like the Mammut Ride Airbag RAS 30L Pack. With a removable, high-volume airbag designed to keep you on the surface of an avalanche (it's called "inverse segregation"think about what happens to the big stuff when you shake a bag of potato chips) and tons of features to make it an excellent all-around pack, the Ride is perfect for day-long tours and slackcountry adventures. With the ability to be transferred between all Mammut RAS packs, the RAS airbag system is reliable, reusable, and proven to keep you on the surface. To deploy the airbag, pull the activation handle that's mounted on the shoulder strap, and the 150L airbag will fill up in about three seconds, helping your head to stay above the debris while functioning as a large, easily-visible locator to assist searchers.
