User Review: Marmot Alpinist Bivy
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $120
Great climber's bivy.
- Super light weight
- Totally weather-proof
- Easy to get into
- Easy to stay tied in
- Simple to adjust the zippers
- Roomy inside (for a bivy)
- No bug net
This is my go-to bivy for alpine climbing. It weighs in at just under a pound, and is completely reliable. I have used it on numerous routes and found that the Membrain Stratos fabric breathes well and it totally waterproof.
I have not had problems with the condensation that plagues many other bivy bags. The zipper arrangement makes it easy to stay tied into your anchor, and it is easy to rig a drip loop or to rig a waterproof anchor. I do wish it had a bug net, but that would add weight that I don't want.
The bag extends the warmth of your sleeping bag by several degrees. I have used a worn-out 20 degree bag in conditions well below freezing and have been warm enough to sleep well.
Good bivy for alpine and big wall routes, as well as just camping out. I heartily recommend it.
