I just bought this thing yesterday, but i have been in the market and actively researching packs for a month or so.

For me, this one lived up to all my expectations of what I needed. There will be plenty of room for me to do 4-5 days vacationing and i would imagine enough gear for the small amount of hiking/camping i do. Hands down i thought it was one of the better looking packs that i researched in the 100-200 dollar / 2500 - 3500 cubic inch range.

The detachable day pack is really sweet. I'll use it everyday to bike to work. Note well though, the detachable day back is only on the newest model (the date on the Marmot tag was 5/29/00) which retails for 199. The store i bought it from had some of last year's models for 99 bucks. I know rei-outlet has last year's model for 119. The difference is the part that is removable on mine is attached on the older model. The main pack has one large compartment with zipper access down 3/4's of each side. there is a small padded "sunglass" pocket on the top of the flap. Their are two netted water bottle holders on either side. The external part (or front part on last years model) has a main compartment with a small net pocket inside at the top. there are two bellowed pockets running from the length of the bag on either side of the flap.

The little tag/card attached to the bag mentioned there is a space for a hydration bladder, but i'm not exactly clear where it is supposed to go. There is zipper in the back top of the main compartment, but it gives access to the metal stay and doesn't seem to have much room for a water filled sac. The external pack has a piece of nylon open at the top that could facilitate this, but being that this part will probably be a couple inches from your back, it might throw off the load...

The waist support is very padded and comfortable as is the back. It has an inverted waffle pattern that will probably be very good for ventilation. I'm giving it a shot this weekend, if i have been duped and it doesn't live up to my expectation i'll be sure and drop an update to this.

cheers
