Marmot Phoenix Jacket
Above: The current Phoenix Jacket, which may differ slightly from the version reviewed.

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Price Paid: $99

I hike in the N. GA, TN, and NC mountains during late spring, late summer/early fall. Sometimes late fall. also some hiking in FL. Pretty much during the rainy seasons. I gave my first Pheonix Jacket to a friend (I lost a bet) and regreted it since. I just got my second one this year. I got orange b/c of hunting season.

This is a great jacket. Lightweight, compact (to the size of a nalgene bottle) and quite breathable. I have worn it from extemely heavy monsoon type rain (with PreCip Full Zip Pants) to sleet (with base layer and fleece) and have remained dry and warm. Armpit zips are a plus. Rubber wrist straps that adjust cuffs never come loose. Hood can be rolled away when not in use. Pockets could be a lil bit higher so you won't have to unbuckle the waist strap on your pack but it's really no big deal. This is a must-have for your gear closet!!
