I am 5.10 172 Lbs and selected a large, I tried a medium as well but liked the longer arms and not so tight in the neck and chest. I wanted to be able to wear alone and also layer with a down vest underneath for super warmth. The large worked perfect.
I have a down light vest (Medium size) in this same brand, and I like to layer this jacket on top and then add a water proof breathable shell for a very light multiple layering system that can handle a huge range of temperature and activity change.
This is a down sweater, not a full blown waterproof outerlayer. The fabric has held up well but it is not a heavy duty abrassion resistant nylon. It is best for drier cold use. Perfect as a very compressible warm layer to pull out of the pack when at rest, or layering.
