Mountain Hardwear Lamina Z Flame 22

Seems very damp, clammy non breathable. Poor zipper. Thermal zoning is nonsense.
Good quality construction, but uncomfortable due to above.

Pros

  • Good quality construction

Cons

  • No breathability
  • Cold zones where the variable thickness of the insulation is thinnest

Great construction quality, but the thermal zoning idea is the invention of a very clever monkey. It makes the bag hot in some places and cold in others, so the comfortable temperature range of this bag is limited.

I have tested this bag extensively and had the same results almost every time. When I first tried it out it was like sleeping in a non-breathable plastic bag. Very clammy, moist, and damp after sleeping in it all night.

I have two other bags, so I did a test under exactly the same conditions. The other two bags produced a dry warmth without the clammy damp feeling every time. Also, as soon as the temperature goes down you feel cold where the insulation is thinnest.

Don't dare roll over in the night, you will get a very cold back. Also the thin insulation in the legs feels cold whatever your position as soon as the temperature is about 10°C. UNBEARABLE NEAR FREEZING. So the temperature rating of this bag is not accurate.

At higher temperatures, you are likely to break into a sweat because of the breathability issue. My more breathable bags don't do this, although they have about the same temp rating as the Z Flame. Wish I had never spent my hard earned money on this thing.

I was thinking about buying the Lamina 20, but if they have used the same material the problems are going to be the same, so I don't think I will risk it as I can't find breathability information anywhere.
