User Review: Mountainsmith Morrison 2

Rating: rated 4 of 5 stars
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $120 (on sale)

Summary

Great lightweight backpacking tent.

Pros

  • Ease of setup
  • Dual doors/vestibule
  • Color coded pole
  • Sub 5 lbs

Cons

  • Small vestibule

The setup on this tent is exceedingly easy. The poles are color-coded and attach to the tent using clips and grommets at the end. The stakes it comes with are decent quality so there's no need to rush out and buy MSR stakes (although I'd highly recommend  to do just that).

It is a fairly stable tent but definitely no snow. It is a very waterproof tent although I'd recommend using a groundcloth with this tent.  It is a very well ventilated tent with fly vents at both ends . It is a two man tent which really means a one man tent with gear especially since it is a narrow but long tent.  It packs down shorter than Mountainsmith says, but about the same thickness. (15"X 7.5"). There is an included gear loft and pockets in two corners which work fairly well.

The only thing keeping me from clicking 5 Stars is the bottom is thin (expected on a lightweight tent) but they don't include a footprint. Although they do sell it for $25 I have not picked it up.

I used this on a scout trip (I am a Life, for an overnighter on the Art Loeb trail and it worked great. It was a summer trip and there some bugs but the netting kept them out. There was no rain, but a little bit of dew.

This is a great backpacking tent at a good price (I paid $120 but they are normally $140) with solid alum. poles and great stakes. The fly works well and covers the whole tent. There is no sign of wear besides a wrinkly bottom from storage. The mosquito netting is very thin and my dad poked a hole in his tent. I like the adjustability of the doors and how wide they open(D doors on both sides).

This is a great tent for backpacking and scouts, but only one person can really fit in it. My only gripe is the size of the vestibule. This is a great product. This is an amazing product. This is one of the best tents for one person there is. :)

I would highly recommend this tent!!!
