Fischer BCX 6

rated 4 of 5 stars Nicely-made, burly construction with best-of-class NNN-BC torsional rigidity and ankle support. But made for big feet and ankles only, and the four steps involved in putting these on and taking them off could get tiring (and difficult to do on-trail). These are the nicest-made and burliest "new school" NNN-BC boots I've seen. They have great torsional rigidity and the exoskeleton actually provides superior ankle support (vs. the burly all-leather Alpina Alaska), which I can't say is the case for… Full review

Atomic Skintec Classic

rated 5 of 5 stars A very simple, functional product. Atomic has nailed it here. Great kick, good glide, and no maintenance! Not a lot to say — they do what the manufactures says they do. Plain and simple. Full review

Atomic Skintec Classic

rated 4 of 5 stars I went out for the first time on these skis a few days ago. I'm a recreational skier and on the trails almost daily, mostly using waxable skis. I found the Atomic skis great for grip on a fairly icy track, good glide, but watch out for lichen in the track. I do know that if a ski is waxed with klister the same can happen. I was very careful when first going over windfall on these skis. All seemed good; they did glide over windfall so I stopped worrying. Almost finished my loop, I hit some old man's… Full review

Salomon Vitane Pilot CF

rated 3 of 5 stars I have loved these boots. I've been perfectly happy with these, until I looked down and realized the sole was delaminating from the topskin!! Bummer!! These boots have been great to ski in. Salomon knows how to make a boot that fits a woman's foot. I even bought Salomon downhill ski boots and love those. The narrower heel and spacious toe area make all the difference in fit. Most other brands don't fit this well.   However, after only four seasons with not that much use, the sole is delaminating… Full review

Rossignol Men's BC X6

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Very good light-medium-duty off-trail xcountry performance, poor lacing system. I have owned these boots for a few years, but only used them rigorously for one season. Although the performance is excellent for what they are designed to be (medium-duty off-trail xcountry) the very poor lacing system ruins this boot. This is the 5th Rossi nordic boot I have tried with this type of quick lacing/locking system and the 5th one that I hate. With older versions of this basic design I had trouble with releasing… Full review

Rottefella NNN BC Manual

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent off-trail xcountry binding. This setup is much more efficient at classic kick and glide than a 75mm binding. I would not choose the automatic binding if you plan on truly skiing off-trail. The auto bindings will ice up off-trail. The auto NNNBC bindings are probably fine for skiing on broken trails; such as snowmobile trails.  I would recommend sizing up to the NNNBC Magnum binding, if your ski has a wide enough waist. The NNNBC Magnum will give you that much more stability; but it is… Full review

Rottefella NNN BC Magnum

rated 5 of 5 stars Ultimate off-trail xcountry binding. When I say "xcountry" I specifically mean classic kick and glide skiing. This is without a doubt; the best off-trail stride and glide binding available: stable and efficient. This setup is much more efficient at classic kick and glide than a 75mm binding. Choose this binding over the automatic binding if you plan on truly skiing off-trail. The auto bindings will ice up off-trail. The auto NNNBC bindings are fine for skiing on broken trails; such as snowmobile… Full review

Alpina Alaska 75mm

rated 5 of 5 stars Ultimate off-trail x-country boot. I have been an avid nordic skier for more than 30 years. My everyday skiing is off-trail x-country through rolling terrain (with the occasional steep climb and decent). Although I appreciate 75mm telemark equipment when I truly need it; I find it agonizingly inefficient compared to NNNBC for most of the skiing I do. Recently I have struggled to find the perfect boot. I have tried the Rossi BC line; like it; but not enough support. I have been using the Fischer… Full review

Fischer BCX 6

rated 3 of 5 stars Boot materials and design are improving. I have owned this boot for a few years and loved the performance out of the box, but eventually had to abandon them. The older version of this boot (grey and black) has a serious design flaw. The flex point in the boot pinches and squeezes your foot (metatarsus). By the time I finally gave up on this boot my feet remained tender for a couple of weeks. The new model (brown) has an improved design and materials. Apparently (my close friend has a season on the… Full review
