A no-see-um head net.

Pros

  • Bug protection without chemicals
  • Packs small
  • Lightweight
  • Does what it is designed to do
  • Saved me from being mauled by mosquitos

Cons

  • Slight glare on the mesh at certain sun angles

Many of the woodsy areas around Chicago are restored wetlands which serve as a breeding and feeding habitat for wildlife, including mosquitos. During a four-hour hike I was not bitten once while wearing the head net. Combined with permethrin treated clothes it was a perfect system to thwart massive swarms of mosquitos.

The head net fits over my full-brimmed Tilley hat and the elastic arm loops hold it in place. It fits in a pocket and the light weight makes it a no-brainer to carry on every hike.

The trails begin to empty every summer as the bugs take over the woods. This head-net allowed me to walk in solitude while near the city.

It allowed me to keep Deet off my face on a hot, sweaty summer day.
