Target Dry Mac in a Sac Classic Jacket

rated 0.5 of 5 stars

A waterproof jacket which does not meet with manufacturer's description.

Pros

  • Ultra light

Cons

  • Only shower proof at best

This was a much vaunted ultra light single layer waterproof jacket by my trusted fishing tackle dealer.

The specs read well, highly waterproof (5000 mm), highly breathable (5000 gsm), wind proof, adjustable hood, vented back, packs into a small stuff sack etc. First time out in light rain my arms and shoulders were wet, especially where the pack shoulder straps were in about 3 hours.

The second time I was caught out in a storm which dumped 200 mm of rain in 24 hours and wind gusts to 140 kph. In half an hour I was soaked to the skin through two layers of fleece. Lucky for me I was not far from home and a good fire to dry out. OK this latter time was the ultimate test, even my 3-layer mountain jacket would have left me damp at the end of a day out.

In conclusion, rest assured I shall be returning this item to the retailer for a full refund as it just does not perform as specified. When you are a long way from civilization you can not afford to get wet and stay wet and cold; that is a recipe for disaster.
