I have been hiking for years and this pack is a great pack. The frame is the same principal as the Coleman Peak 1 when they first came out. Moves and flexes well with the body while on the trail.
This pack has plenty of room, plenty of pockets and adjusts great. The hefty padding on the hip and shoulder pads is perfect!! The middle pocket is just the right size to hold your rain jacket and pants. The side pockets help keep you organized and the main flap pocket is perfect for a map and a rain cover. Plenty of room on the bottom of the frame to strap on a sleeping bag.
This pack has two side pockets on the top portion of the pack that are great for organizing your small stuff. What I really like about this pack is the two lower pockets have been replaced by water bottle carriers. The Outdoor Products .5 liter water bottles fit perfect, as do any other .5 liter water bottles. Easy to reach while on the trail makes it great to hydrate without having to stop.
This pack also has a sleeve inside that holds the Outdoor products water bladder as well. However, when the pack is full, the hydration bladder is squeezed considerably, and I worried about it busting and getting my gear soaking wet. So I just used the .5 liter water bottles.
It is a durable pack and the only reason I passed it on to my son, is I wanted a bigger pack. I would buy another one of these in a heartbeat!! The main pack is divided into two separate compartments and loads easily.
The only thing I did not like about the pack, is the string closure mechanism at the mouth of the pack. This seems inherent with the Outdoor Products packs, as I have purchased the Dragonfly for my nephews. These packs have the same mechanism, and it grabs and frays the drawstring. I pulled them all off and replaced them with a regular spring loaded cord lock. No problems after that!!
