Ibex Meru Hat

rated 5 of 5 stars After six months of wearing the Ibex's Meru Hat, I can confidently state this is the most comfortable beanie I have ever worn. This quality merino wool hat has done the job exceptionally well. Soon after starting to wear the Meru, I stopped grabbing other hats out of my closet. As I stated in the summary, this is the most comfortable beanie I have used, and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone shopping around for a wool beanie. Testing: I wore the Meru throughout the winter of 2016-2017, including… Full review

Outdoor Research Sun Runner Cap

rated 4 of 5 stars Ultimate hiking cap, great cover, lightweight, breathable, durable, and highly adjustable. I’ve hiked with this cap over 1,000 k"m, mostly in hot sunny conditions, I love this cap and I'm happy I had it with me, it only has one flaw which can be ignored. Pros: Covers almost all of the exposed skin of head and neck Doesn’t block your field of vision like most wide bream hats do Lightweight, highly breathable and packs to nothing Adjustable – you can take the hood off, or position it in many… Full review

Icebreaker Pocket 200 Hat

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This light knitted hat is thin and close-fitting. It's small enough to keep in a pocket. It's light enough to wear in cool weather, but it's not warm enough for -40°C weather. This knitted hat (or toque, as we in Canada call it) is very comfortable to wear. It's made from a double layer of t-shirt fabric, of merino wool. This kind of wool isn't scratchy at all, so many people allergic to wool will not get a reaction from this cloth. I've worn this hat during four winters. It's nice to have a hat… Full review

GooseFeet Down Balaclava

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Warmest balaclava ever. Full review

Turtle Fur Brain Shroud

rated 4 of 5 stars I love the lined ears but can be too warm on a steep ascent where I like to wear a very light hat (Arc'teryxPhase AR Beanie). Full review

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

rated 5 of 5 stars A great baclava for all your winter needs. I have used this in the Adirondack High Peaks to wear while soaking in some of the best views in the country and to sleep in during winter backcountry camping. I absolutely love mine and it fits perfect, blocks wind, is warm and has some water resistance to it. If needed I always wear a beanie over it instead of under so it doesn't stretch out. I wouldn't recommend wearing a hat under it. To the other reviewer, either you have a knock off or an imperfection… Full review

Fjallraven Sarek Balaclava Cap

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Quite nice balaclava. I bought one of this for myself and one for my wife. She is always stylish and I was surprise that she actually liked. This is a very handsome tuck/balaclava. The wool is of good quality and it provides excellent insulation. I found that the wool can be itchy, yes I have lost some of my hair at this point in my life, but I wear an Icebreaker cap under it and that takes care of the problem. It has a nice cap visor, but I found that it can limit your peripheral vision. On the… Full review

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

rated 3 of 5 stars Outdoor Research's Sonic Balaclava is windproof and well-made. However, the overall design seems for use in mountaineering (and skiing?) only. With goggles, the balaclava performs well. Without goggles, it ranks towards the bottom of the balaclavas I have used. I don't believe backpackers and other non-goggle users will find much value with this product. I bought this balaclava for my climb of Mt. Rainier in 2015. I normally wear glasses, but I wore contacts for that trip so that I could rent and… Full review

Seirus Quick Draw Hat

rated 4 of 5 stars Warm and versatile at a fair price. Bought this last spring at Dicks Sporting Goods for 18$. I have used it on about five day hikes and three overnight to four-night trips. Very warm down to at least 20 degrees, I'm sure it will go lower. I just have not had the opportunity to get it out. Good water repellency from the factory. I wore it in the rain a lot on a recent trip and it never soaked through. At the temperatures I have used the QuickDraw in it been a little too warm while walking but during… Full review
