Sierra Designs Elite Rain Chaps

rated 4 of 5 stars These chaps are a lightweight alternative to regular rain pants. They shed water and have much more ventilation than rain pants. I had the opportunity to test the Sierra Designs Elite Rain Chaps this summer, first on a drizzly day hike in California and then for four solid days of rain on the Tour of Mont Blanc. The chaps are an interesting alternative to rain pants in that they are two separate legs that attach to pants or shorts using a plastic hook on a single side strap (one strap per leg). Full review

prAna Halle Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars Every time I see a woman browsing hiking pants in an outdoor store, I want to run up to her and tell her about these pants. (But that would be weird so I'll just write this review.) The cut is flattering, the fabric has stretch but is also sturdy, and after three years and many miles they still look brand new. Perfect for hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, and around town. Prana's Halle Pants are my favorite piece of outdoor gear I own. Why do I love them? The cut is the BEST — seriously flattering… Full review

Kuhl Revolvr Pant

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Super comfortable hiking pants. I wear these on almost every hiking trip. Despite the price, I highly recommend them. After nearly biting the $85 bullet several times, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased these pants. After the initial sticker shock, I have not been disappointed in the least. They are true to size and fit great. I find myself wearing these pants off the trail quite often. They are very comfortable. Pockets are well placed and right sized. Abrasion resistance is very good. The… Full review

The North Face Paramount Traverse Pant

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I've tired on a pair on in size 32. I usually wear 32 or medium, and the fit is just perfect. The length for a 6 ft guy at 160 pounds is also excellent. They come factory ready with a water repellent, which is effective. They look great so I decided to buy 3 pairs. The Paramount also have pre-bent knees, two zipped pockets on each legs (vertical on the right leg and horizontal on the left), plus four others. I used the zipped pocket on the left leg usually for poo bags for the dog and didn't use… Full review

Patagonia Women's Simple Guide Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars The best go-anywhere, do pretty much anything softshell pants — totally dependable and sturdy. I bought these initially for a mountaineering trip to NZ and they have proved to be the most valuable part of my autumn/winter wardrobe. Suited to almost any cool/cold climate activity, they have skied, snow-shoed, climbed, cycled, and kept me warm and cosy through howling gales and miles and miles of backcountry travel. A totally bombproof and very comfortable pair of pants — and even after all their… Full review

Bergans Moa Pirate Pant

rated 4 of 5 stars The Bergans of Norway Moa Pirate Pants are a nice, all-around functional garment. The capris style provides more coverage than shorts, but is still great for staying cool in hot and muggy environments. I especially liked the fabric for its lightweight, stretchy and quick-dry properties. On the downside, it has a rather paper-like feel and makes a considerable "swooshing" noise when rubbed together. Fit, styling, and construction are good and on par with a higher price-point. Manufacturer Claims:… Full review

Toad&Co Debug Cool Weave Pant

rated 4 of 5 stars The Toad&Co. Debug Cool Weave pants are lightweight hiking/traveling pants that come pretreated with Insect Shield. This permethrin-based fabric treatment does a very good job of repelling mosquitos, ticks, flies and assorted other pesky flying bugs. The Cool Weave fabric provides ventilation and UPF40 sun protection. Two large front pockets and two rear pockets are joined by a cleverly hidden zippered pocket behind the left rear pocket. I have been testing these pants for the past three months… Full review

Marmot Men's PreCip Pant

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great for hiking, backpacking, any wet or chilly to cold weather. Summary - These are my go-to rain protection pants when hiking and backpacking. The full length leg zippers can not be overrated — adds ventilation when needed, easy to put on quickly in sudden downpour, and zippers do not leak in heavy rain. My Use - These pants have had a lot of wear on mountain backpacks in the Rockies and Sierras. Also great on day hikes in the rain when I want to be out for at least several hours and remain… Full review

Marmot Women's PreCip Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars Great waterproof rain pants! Lightweight and durable. Zippers and snaps on legs and an elastic drawstring at the ankles make this the best rain pant out there! I bought these last year to actually wear with a base layer and hiking pant to make a good snow pant and it worked great! The weather and activity on the mountain can change quickly so instead of snow pants I thought layering was the key, and I was right! I never even wore my Mammut snow pants that cost me a fortune this year. I just wore… Full review
