A long time classic, this jacket is still being made by Patagonia. It is a three-layer waterproof, breathable shell and packs down to about the size of a BIG loaf of bread. As usual Patagonia workmanship is top-end!

This jacket is quite stiff so I bought it one size too big to allow for easy layering. The details are well thought out; pit zips, snow-skirt, plenty of BIG pockets (one on the upper arm for a gps/mobile phone), a big hood that fits a helmet, etc.

So how does it stand up against the elements? I have worn this jacket extensively in all types of weather and rest assured; it's absolutely waterproof. Ventilation is also easily tuned with the pit zips. The fabric seems very durable, despite backpacking trips I haven't noticed the fabric wearing down.

My only critisism is the fabric itself, when wearing it on the skin it feels too stiff. Besides that love the fit and feel of it. Try to get this one cheap at the Patagonia outlet store; bought mine in the Dublin store!
