The advantages to the Petzl Duo 14 LED headlamp are numerous: A super bright halogen bulb with good burn time and a superb 14 LED light source that offers durability and longevity. The LED lamp has no filaments to break if dropped and the LED automatically goes into survival mode when the battery life reaches a low level providing another 80 hours of usable light.

I thought the brightness of the LED lamp was great; plenty of light to do nightly tasks. The LED can also be regulated manually to three differing levels of brightness to give you choices in brightness versus economy. This lamp has it all--a zoom to focus the bright haolgen lamp to extend the range of light and a safety on the on/off button to avoid mishaps when the light is being stored. The unit is also waterproof to 5 meters.

In my opinion you can't find a more reliable lamp. The only drawback I can find is that it takes a little more effort to attach the belt battery pack; but if you're in a cold environment keeping the batteries under your coat next to your warm body aides in optimal battery performance. The 4 C-cell battery pack is heavier than those double and triple A designs but you don't have to carry extra batteries on most trips and there is a valualbe peace of mind that design. You can also get rechargable batteries from Petzl if desired.
