rated 5 of 5 stars Hi hikers! I bought these and broke them in on many weekends of hiking through Chequamegon (WS) park doing every possible macho stream crossing to prepare them, and me, for two glorious weeks in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area (MT) in the 1970s. They rock on rock - and roll... NEVER! In my dotage, I now wear Cole Hahn "Country". Style ain't design. I never had any broken skin with the Eigers. No problems, ever. I wore them daily after the little trek. We were soul mates. I was unable to convince… Full review

Mountain Trail XT GTX

rated 5 of 5 stars I just bought my second pair a few months ago and love them. I had bought the similar boots to these back in 2004, and they were the greatest boots i owed. rated 5 of 5 stars Bought mine on-line from Cotswold outdoor 2 years ago for £110. Because I bought them on-line I never got to try them on first but I got lucky and they fit great and are very comfortable for such a heavy boot. As a member of a Mountain Rescue team I wear these boots a lot in tough conditions and they have never let water in. The support is excellent and due to the extremely aggressive and deep tread you feel nothing through the sole.  The insole lacks a bit of padding but this can be solved by… Full review

rated 4 of 5 stars Wade: You answered your own question.  REI doesn't sell them anymore because no one is using heavy boots anymore except for the most extreme conditions AND these boots are beasts to break in, almost as if they break in your feet rather than the other way around.  REI used them as their rental hiking boot for a number of years. Unfortunately for me, they are the only boot I've found where I can get enough width in the middle while still locking in my foot in the back. I rate them 4 instead of 5… Full review
